When I was first diagnosed with the unofficial diagnosis of Aspergers in 1984
The neurologist told me to smoke 3/4 of a pack per day
He said Nicotine would help my anxiety and smoking at that time was the cheapest method.
This Neuroscientist had Asperger's as well so he already understood the problems.
He said that during any day something "unlogical" would happen at that point I would become upset trying to figure out why this person is so unlogical and go into a "micro depression" or shut down. because this world makes no sense at all.

I smoked for 16 years but quit because I couldn't breath, But in the last ten years since I quit I can not tolerate anyone
working with me that is not a logical thinker. I need to work with laborers and these men are not always the Einstein's they profess to be. I spoke with a neurologist and she said she wouldn't touch that subject with a ten foot pole.
I understand Smoking is a nasty habit, expensive and intrusive besides the health problems.
But living life in this world is no picnic either. Besides the fact I think we are all "radiant energy living in some sort of energy system like a computer program" doesn't help things.

So I've decided to try the patch and do the research as I go to see how much better I feel.
Just so you know I have tried removing stress from my life. But the only way possible is to work by myself.
That is not an option anymore. My customers are great but I can not stand workers that can not perform the same task twice the same way. I am detail oriented, They are not.

Day 1) NO PATCH, almost choked out my helper today for being stupid. I'm sorry "NORMAL"

Anybody use the patch?,
I'll try starting at 14mg per day.

I've never tried the patch. I used the gum when I quit smoking though. Interesting idea...

Sometimes I get pretty darn stressed out over things. I don't know if nicotine would be the right answer for me though.

I smoke when I'm anxious. The buzz helps to shake out the anxiety. I don't know if a regular dose of nicotine would help, because I need the action, isolation and buzz that comes from actually smoking. I have thought about electronic cigarettes because those are basically mini vaporisers - no tar or anything.

I prefer weed because I can sustain a longer, more low and consistent relaxed feeling - plus it's not so bad for you. But cigarettes are legal... go figure.

I often wonder if having bad habits in order to function day-to-day is worth the long-term consequences. If I could live 60 good years or 80 terrible ones, what one should I choose?

As I've said in other threads I started smoking at the age of 12 and quit cold turkey without any craving by using an e cig. Much healthier than tobacco and people actually enjoy the smell of the vapor (especially waffle flavor). Hell of a lot cheaper than smoking too. If you want to know anything about e cig just PM me, I've done a ton of research on them in true aspie fashion

I am debating smoking, I found a roll your own place thats $2 per pack or I have research growing my own tobacco.
But I quit because it was effecting my breathing. Plus Nowadays nobody likes smokers and I'll get the why do smoke... lecture 30 times a day.

I have been treated with hypnosis to make me forget childhood abuse, It worked great.
Of course remembering was an adventure. Maybe I can be hypnotized to not mind that people can not retain a single thing I teach them.

Very strange to me that a physician would encourage their patients to smoke cigarettes. This just seems like bad practice. I know the world was a different place back then, but certainly not that different.

I have found it occasionally to be helpful back when I was a smoker, but I get along fine without it.

As others have said I found cannabis more helpful. But I never do that unless somebody else has it, and wouldn't do it outside of social situations.

I use electronic cigarettes. I've never tried patches before, but I found out about e-cigarettes when I still lived with my parents. I wanted a way to smoke without them smelling the smoke on me, or a way that I could do it at home. E-cigarettes still have nicotine, and you can smoke them anywhere without a lasting odor. I've literally smoked them inside a library before. There's no tobacco, but you get the same effect. I call them my inhalers. :)

That neuroscientist/neurologist was a drug addict who was foolishly and blindly trying to spread a dangerous and disgusting form of drug addiction.

I'm glad you finally stopped. (In your later post you then say you're debating smoking? Going back to it?!? DON'T!! !)

Anyone who actually suggests smoking to another human being needs to be put away.

What would these results mean? Been told here I must be a "half pint".

I still use patches after quitting smoking a while ago. I don't miss cigarettes, and would never recommend them. What about e-cigs instead?

Honestly, I think nicotine dependency creates more anxiety than it appeases.

The medical and scientific world hasn't fully commented on them yet, but it's known the nicotine addiction thing is certainly still there, and that one of the things used to create the vapor is a major ingredient in ANTI-FREEZE. Driveway puddles laced with leaked anti-freeze have killed people's pets who drank from the puddle. Seems anti-freeze destroys the kidneys. The things used to create the vapor have also, on their own, been linked to cancer.

E-cigs are NOT what they're cracked up to be. AVOID.

I quit smoking back in April. Was on the patches until the end of july. Stopped using patches...got depressed. Things are improving now. Don't want to return to smoking or using nicotine again.

You are better off without it.

I never smoked but I started using nicotine mini losenges to help with motion sickness. i found that it really helped me to be calmer when I had social anxiety.
I do not like the way it makes me feel if I am not having anxiety. And I do not use enough to get addicted. But for emergancy situations and stress at work, a two mil mini does the trick.
