We, the people on the Autistic Spectrum have a choice.
We can either try to "fit in" with the rest of society, or we can be so egocentric that we can't be bothered.
I choose the actor. I observe NT's. I listen to their socializing. I practice it, so in social situations I can just emulate/mimic what is expected.
It isn't natural for me, but it enables me to "fit in".
It is VERY tiring and draining, but at least we can appear like them even though it is an act. Like being on the stage.
They can't see it is emulation, and so we are accepted.

There is a lot of trueth to this.

They pretend to be friends, for no reason other than to feel liked. They know the other person doesn't like them, but they are compelled to pretend.

Over the Christmass break, I've stood outside my front door having a cigarete. NT's walk past doing their walking exersize. They don't see me at all. I say "hello". They don't hear me. Completely oblivious to the world around them.

I've seen so many near misses in cars over the years. I've come to the conclusion that it is "because" they are NT's that they have the accidents. I drive, and am aware of everything in front and behind. When I'm sitting in their car as a passanger, it scares the hell out of me that they are surprised to see a car beside them, or the car in front slows down.

We are far more free. We don't care what they think of us. We are not bound or compelled to pretend to like someone. I've been told that I'm the most natural person they've ever met.

A lot of times NTs will deliberately ignore you unless you ignore them back. Then they get mad cause you're not giving them recognition for their smug superior-attitude.

I love the way NT's are two faced. It entertains me no ends.

I witness it every day. I love the NT's. Even more so when they are drunk.

I get that a lot of us don't like the way that neurotypicals communicate with each other, as well as the fact that we're considered deficient for not doing so and are expected to adopt this manner of communication. But do we really have to call them ret*ds? That's now deemed as an incredibly stigmatizing word for those intellectual disabilities. I think we can communicate our dislike of their means of communicating without resorting to such offensive terms.

He has a point... but, by the very definition of "ret*d," it's actually a hinderance not to be able to play the game via the art of NT bullshitting.

A good friend of mine once told me, "Rich, you're almost honest to a fault.. people aren't so completely honest all the time like this because it doesn't serve them to be so." (or something to that effect) It was interesting at the time to hear that feedback. The more I reduce my symptoms and intuitively am able to keep my honest thoughts to myself and/or play the NT BS charades game, the more I'm accepted socially and the better things work out for me in terms of negotiating anything.

I might not have an ASD, so perhaps my perception is different...

But I think there is quite a bit of unjustified NT hatred (maybe too strong a word, I don't know) on this site... They are strongly stereotyped as being the exact opposite as those on the autism spectrum, when there is probably more diversity within the NT population than within the autistic population. Many NT's are genuine people, and they can't help many of the things they do any more than ASD people can and have even less of a reason to change. Some people here certainly have had terrible experiences with NT's but their behavior is wrongly assumed to be caused by them being NT. Sorry for the awkward phrasing, hopefully that makes sense...

I would never call anyone a ret*d, apart from myself.

I spend all my days around NT people.

I am odd, they are odd. We are all odd. Therefore, we are all the same.

Who gives a f*****g s**t?

Please excuse the asterisks.

I just cannot for the life of me get my head around the fact that he doesn't scrub the dishes, only immerses them in soapy water and rinses them. Never ever did I see or hear of such a thing. In my opinion, gross.

Agree. This thread should be deleted or closed, it's just obnoxious.

He did actually scrub the dishes. Watch it again and you'll see him scrubbing.

What I don't get is why he does this while making his rant video. The intermittent sound of running water is distracting. I suppose he got bored with the usual manner of rants which are given while focused on just the audience. He also had to keep bending awkwardly to read his notes taped to the cabinet.

The use of "ret*d" as a go-to insult is just obnoxious. It makes me want to say something vague to him just to piss him off. His generation just uses that word too reflexively, not even thinking about it.

Hatred is not to strong a word. Being a small minority for over 5 decades I can understand why the hatred occurs but hatred is hatred. And it is pretty much unjustified. I have run into a whole bunch of NT's that are blunt, direct, and don't care about, or purposely try to hurt peoples feelings. I have run into NT's who are 3,4,,5 times as intelligent as myself. Pigeonholing 98.5% of the population is just wrong. Spending post after post bemoaning how they just don't understand us, they hate etc then enjoying this bit of immature whining is known as hypocrisy.
