Hello all,

I am interested to know what areas in Australia are the most Aspie friendly in terms of tolerance, acceptance and resources.

What type of area have you found the best and the worst.

What positive and negative experiences have you had in your area.

The bigger cities...

Smaller towns often know everything about everyone.
If you get on the wrong side of the community you would be royally stuffed...

Also, I'd imagine in a tight knit community, you would probably be the focus of most of the gossip about your weird/comical ways...

Well that doesn't say much for small communities then.

I would also agree on bigger places being better. It wouldn't have to be a capital though. I lived in Newcastle for a while. I think the greater area has around 250,000 people. It's big enough to have that sense of distance and privacy but not overwhelmingly big and busy like places like Sydney. Bigger places are more likely to have mental health resources and facilities as well if you need them. After that it just depends on your preferences. Think about if you could live somewhere with or without an art gallery or a decent night life scene. Unfortunately Australia doesn't really have a Silicon Valley type place. Maybe some day.

My experiences of small communities haven't been positive, so I think your right about larger places being better.
In larger areas minority interest groups would be better represented and there would be more resources available.

No we don't and I don't think we will any time soon.

It would be interesting to know what areas have the highest rate of AS, maybe that could be a consideration.
I have heard that the Gold Coast is relatively AS friendly. Does anyone have any experiences living there?

It doesn't say much for NT tribalism...
