i've heard many people on the spectrum like danger. i used to. of course, i also suffer from general anxiety. it's a strange paradox. who else has both?
i used to come home late at night when i was living in chicago, after midnight, real bad neighborhood. i enjoyed the danger. i was in my mid twenties then. it made me feel high.
when the gangsters corncer or circled me, i took the knife i kept in my pocket and held it to their throat. that did it every time. the danger made me feel lightheaded. i dont do it anymore. not to worry. but what have you done, and how did you feel, and why do we like danger?

adrenalin? I think danger is something that makes people euphoric to some extent, especially after coming out of a dangerous experience, I don't think its something particularly with autistic people though I think its with everybody.

I don't like danger though, in that the benefits of that adrenalin feeling don't out way the profound negatives, I also have anxiety.

shoplifting is something that I have participated in, only once, but that causes the same kind of reaction because there is a danger of being caught. that's why a lot of people steal things, its thrilling

I don't like danger. 8O

I don't even like unpredictability. All I can think of is winding up without if I can't create stability.

I enjoy non-social types of danger (snowboarding, skydiving, bungee jumping, etc.)--quite a thrill; but the type of danger described with dark, knives, gangs sounds excruciatingly awful to me with social complexities of intimidation, risk of being followed, etc. I also have profound social anxiety that requires medication to tolerate being around people and any form of eye contact.

Another WP member once posted that some Aspies become counter-phobic to overcome fears that can be mastered as a way to counter the seemingly unconquerable social fear where a "3,2,1 suck it up" mantra doesn't improve social interaction via exposure because the other person can usually sense anxiety which leads to social failure.

I suffer from mild anxiety and I don't like danger. I like being comfortable in my skin and not worrying whether I can get shot. The only times I wasn't too concerned with danger was when I went out on drug runs. During those times I'd end up in questionable neighbourhoods, questionable buildings, questionable homes and questionable back alleys. I was still scared but it was imperative that I scored whatever I was looking for.

I never liked danger. Of course I have done things that were considered risky and I didn't know it like walking in the middle of the night from a bus stop for two miles.

There are situations that make me uncomfortable like seeing a fight go on, conflicts, cursing. I once saw a man get pissed no one had a cell phone for him to use to call his girlfriend so he talked about how someday the world will blow up one day and he will be the only one alive and I could tell he wasn't being taken seriously because I heard people laughing. Once on the way to work, there was a guy crying for money so he can get food and when no one would give it to him, he threatened to kill himself if he didn't eat and that got a negative reaction out of people. It was all fake because once he got his money, he was all back to normal like nothing happened and he never got off the train to get food. To me it's all scary stuff because I don't know them and I don't even know if they are going to pull out a gun or knife or start attacking. Sometimes I do see interesting things on the light rail or at the stop and I overheard one man admitting if he didn't have his fare, he would have knocked the fare inspector off his feet and gotten off the train. I couldn't imagine if that actually happened if he didn't have his ticket or couldn't find it. I would hate to witness it.

I might watch a TV show or movie that involves high stakes, but I absolutely hate being involved in conflict in real life.

I don't mind calculated risks. For example, I know that the chances of me dying while, skiing, skydiving, or riding on a roller coaster are slim, and it does give me a degree of enjoyment. If you were to ask me to take a hike in an African Jungle without a guide or malaria shot, I would tell you no.

I would say the type of risk the OP has described is very unusual for most people, NTs included and especially those with AS. That type of situation would frighten the living daylights out of 95% of people out there, as a conservative estimate. Paradoxical risk-taking with latent anxiety is common in those with bipolar, btw.

(diagnosed with AS recently)

Like League Girl I don't like danger but have done risky or dangerous things - for my part mostly because I didn't know better (people afterward have said: you did WHAT? Are you NUTS? 8O )

I suffer from anxiety big time, have most of my life.

I guess that drive for the adrenaline "buzz" from danger is due to the ADHD part of me.
Thankfully the meds calm down "the beast" a lot.

We, the people on the Autistic Spectrum have a choice.
We can either try to "fit in" with the rest of society, or we can be so egocentric that we can't be bothered.
I choose the actor. I observe NT's. I listen to their socializing. I practice it, so in social situations I can just emulate/mimic what is expected.
It isn't natural for me, but it enables me to "fit in".
It is VERY tiring and draining, but at least we can appear like them even though it is an act. Like being on the stage.
They can't see it is emulation, and so we are accepted.

I do have anxiety, and I don't particularly like danger. I can kinda-sorta imagine how the two could be co-occuring, though....sort of.

Danger/adrenalin junkie here, stunt ride motorcycles, skateboard, martial arts, free running, etc. I get hurt a lot, not many major injuries, just bruises and scrapes and stuff. I love pushing myself physically. Yes I have anxiety, a lot of it. ::edit::: the anxiety is almost exclusively of the social type ::edit::
