What do you hyperfocus on?

If things you hyper focus on include particular topics of interest that you read about I have another question for you:

- is your concentration ever interrupted when you do not understand a section of the text? This could be a sentence or a word etc. Does that break the flow for you? Does that then break the "hyper focus"? how do you experience it?

When I'm interrupted by any kind of problems with understanding or being able to continue, etc., the focus is not instantly lost.
Instead I will do whatever I deem necessary to continue.
I may look up the word on google, or I may even write an entire program for dealing with the problem. I can become quite creative.
Only if that doesn't work, takes too long (more than 20 minutes or so) or is too much effort (it can be, but I'm willing to go through a lot of trouble while in the flow) then I might stop.
Needless to say, that's a bummer.

Hyperfocus is my normal way of attending to something. So I hyperfocus on things I'm reading and on things I'm doing, like playing the piano or guitar. One of the joys of my life is to going fully and deeply into learning something. It's a beautiful feeling, to be competely immersed in something you're interested in. In response to your second question my concentration is not usually broken by not understanding something. Usually if I don't understand something my focus branches off to learn that new thing and then branches back with the new understanding. Even if I'm watching a documentary, if I don't understand something I pause the TV and look it up. So for me the experience of not understanding something triggers a kind fo hunting behaviour where I'm looking for an explaination.
