Hello, I'm wondering what you guys do if you need to have somebody with you at the doctor - mandatory - for instance a colonoscopy, but you don't have anybody to go with you.

Ask the doctor or whomever else it may concern, because that really stumps me.

I asked my gastroenterologist prior to the procedure to call me a taxi afterwards. I assume this is about the after-effects of anesthesia and their responsibility to make sure that you get home safely?

No, I just feel weird telling them I don't have anybody to go with me. People here understand it, but a doctor might not.

Doctors have heard it all. Don't be shy about that. The doctor might be able to get you in with a community service or know about some way to solve this. Go ahead and tell the doctor.

Where I live, we've had 2 elderly people who froze to death on their doorstep after taking a cab from the hospital. The cab drove off and they couldn't open their door. Really. A cab might not be the answer.
