Lo, everyone. I am going to buy one of the following three video game consoles to grace the television of my current and future homes, but i am having trouble deciding. So i will ask you. Which of the following would you choose?

    Xbox (Microsoft)

    Nintendo Gamecube (Nintendo)

    Playstation 2 (Sony)

You can vote in the attached poll. Try to base your vote on:

    Price

    Gameplay quality

    Price of games

    Avalibility of games

    Game spectrum

Any iminent sucessors by the same company that may outdate the console

Also feel free to post any advice on choosing on this thread.

Thanks a bunch!

I hear the PS3 and XBox 2 are coming out by the end of next year. Also the PSP (Playstation Portable) is out and is really great.

Honestly, the PS2 has the most variety. But I have that and a Gamecube. Gamecube has a few good party games:
Super Samsh Bros.
MarioParty
Phantasy Star Online
Mario Kart
and probaly more I can't think of right now.

PS2 has lots of good RPG's like the FF Series. It's also reverse compatible with PS1 and can play DVD's.

X-Box, as far as I know, has good first person shooters, which I'm not very fond of. That, and X-Box live costs money. :(

And so, it depends on how often you have friends over and your taste in games.

Oh, and if you don't have anything right now, I suggest you wait until the next-gen consoles come. If you can't wait until then, just buy an old system at a used store. Because I would never consider buying a new system NOW, it's too late and you're better off waiting.

Just some suggestions. :P

PS2 -
Upside - BY FAR the largest game library of the three (and that's not even including PSX games). The new version of the console which came out a few months ago is smaller than both competitors and includes a built-in network adapter.

Downside - Worst graphics of the three, hard drive still has to be bought seperately, successor on the horizon

Xbox -
Upside - Most powerful, Xbox Live, Halo, built-in hard drive

Downside - Fat and ugly, not portable, you have to pay for Xbox Live, successor to be unveiled in May

+/- Microsoft

Gamecube -
Upside - Lightweight and portable, new Zelda game on the horizon

Downside - No DVD support, lack of titles, network play is supported but rarely used

With the next generation so close, I don't any of them are really worth it at the moment. I'd recommend a PSP. They're brand new, already have a decent-sized library, and can play Mpeg-4 video (if you spend extra money on a memory card with the necessary storage capacity).

In my opinion the PS2 is ok, but the X BOX seems to have better graphics. I am the sort of person who gets pissed off with poor graphics, so I would pick the X box.

XBox may have good graphics, but graphics don't really matter. How much fun you have playing the games is what matters. Just because the graphics are bad doesn't mean that the games are bad. I really, really like PS2 the best. They have a better selection of games than XBox or GameCube in my opinion. I'd buy an XBox, but there's only two games on it that I'm interested in, and there's a third one that might not be released in the United States.

Thanks a bunch, everyone. I think i will go for the PS2, since it has a lot of RPG games, which are my favorite. I'm still not sure, however, since i am still rather loyal to Nintendo... Plus, the Gamecube is cheaper and has a lot of classic games that i like, such as Zelda, Mario, and Starfox.

Talk to you later,

We have both the XBox and the Nintendo Gamecube and by far we get the most use out of the XBox. I can't say about the PS2 though as I don't have one and have never played one.

It mostly depends on what types of games you like. If you're into Mario and other classics the obvious choice is the Nintendo. However, if you're into RPG and stuff like that you'll definitely want XBox. Graphics are great on XBox and there's never a shortage of great games.

Go with PC, you get the most expandability and your games stay compatible with your system as you upgrade.

I've found the gamecube to have the worst graphics of the three, followed by the PS/2 then the XBOX.

Though, you should pick PC if you want to have access to the most games, there are some ways, if the console games are on DVD, to be able to play them on your PC if you're inclined to do so.

Otherwise, wait for the PS3 to come out, and a month after grab a PS2. Think drastic price drop. =)

I agree. Stick with PC. Then you get the internet as well as all games.

You mean you built your own "extreme-budget" gaming computer?!

While i am capable of buying the PC versions of most games such as Halo, I choose not to, because my computer is as much use for games as a recurve bow is to fight off a rocket launcher. IT IS A DI-NO-SAUR!! ! I would consider it , though, if i had free acess to a decent PC. I am thinking about getting both Gamecube and PS2. I will get the PS2 first, then save up for the Gamecube. Still not sure, though. Thanks a bunch fo the advice!

PS: I am interested in the computer, Kitsune. You can tell me more by PM. Thanks!

I built it, from the ground up. You buy the components, the software, and put 'em together.

For techies;

Socket 754 athlon64 3000+
Water cooling using the kingwin awc-1
eVGA 6800GT
Antec trupower 550W

That's about all you need to hear. =P Am gonna get a gig of kingston hyperX PC4000 and an athlon64 3700
