I discovered this news clip from The Onion today (which means it's obviously fake and intended to be funny) and am curious as to your thoughts on it. I personally did find it quite amusing, though I wonder if it will have an impact on the way NTs see us.

He has classic autism.

I thought it was hysterical. You know we like to talk about our special interests. The onion doesn't pick on people, the they just find humor in life. I loved the part where he said people were trying to comfort her by hitting her on the back, totally like a real Autistic person might have said. Slightly exaggerated.

If that's the "autistic reporter"; I've laughed at everything he's done.
I'm not sure what effect it would have on the general perception of us. I would hope that people would see that it was exaggeration for the purposes of satire.
One part I can actually relate to is when he's asked how he thinks the people feel, and first replies "Happy, because they got to see each other", then corrects himself to "sad, because she is dead". I have a real tendency to completely miss the context in situations too. Not to that degree, but it's definitely there, and it causes problems.

I think it was very funny, there were a lot of bits in there that made me go "Yeah, that's me!" (only exaggerated a LOT)... I personally don't feel offended, yet I would understand that it might offend some. I don't think my mother would find it very funny, she is not on the spectrum but she tends to get defensive whenever autism gets poked fun of, even if it's all in good humour.

I don't think this will affect anyone's views though, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Onion has a good number of folks in their employ who are on the spectrum.

The Onion's autistic reporter is a relatively positive representation of autistic people. Often, the joke is that he can see the silliness of a situation when nobody else can.

And the news reporter was cute too. Nice looking boy/man.

They find their humor by laughing at people.

This makes sport of the problems many verbal autistics have with interacting with others.

I know it's meant to be a joke, but it makes me feel uncomfortable.

It's like jokes about people of certain nationalities being drunks, criminals, or stupid.

They apparently pick on all kinds of people, tho'. That's at least something. Autistics aren't their only target.

Okay I really liked this one and I actually think the NTs are the funny part because it does show some of their mixed logic, I mean I get it too but he does a good job of showing hot the us vs them mentality works

I thought it was funny. It's all in good fun, especially considering that the video came from The Onion-- they make fun of EVERYTHING. Nothing they do should be taken to heart, in my opinion, though I can see why their stuff would offend some people.

I watched some more on YouTube, and the one where he's interviewing the prisoner is my favorite.

They're hysterical!
