Hi--

I have always felt a little "off" socially and psychologically. Recently, I have suspected that I may have AS or another sort of disorder/syndrome. After doing some research and an extensive self test, I strongly suspect that I may have AS. I match many of the symptoms and characteristics that I have discovered through research, and the test I took indicated that I was "very likely an aspie". I work is eudcation and many of the students I meet with AS just remind me of myself at their age. How do I go about being tested/diagnosed officially? Who do I talk to first? I am a 26 year old male with no prior history of physical or mental problems save for some depression and anxiety. I have never been dignosed with any sort of PDD as a child or adult.

I see you're in the education system. Can you contact people who would put youngsters on the route to diagnosis? A school nurse, a counsellor, somebody like that. They might know.

For me, somebody sent the url to WrongPlanet. When I got here, it was like standing in a hall of mirrors - everybody was like me! Then I searched the web a lot, getting more and more info. I asked my doctor, who took it to a "Team Meeting", who approved the referral to a psychiatrist. That was seven months ago, still waiting.

They told me I might go to the Children's Hospital Psychiatric or to the ordinary Psychiatric Hospital. That's what gave me the idea that getting in touch with children's advisors might be useful.

Now I'm buying up Temple Grandin's books - I wish I'd done that before but I didn't know.
