What is the official diagnosis for aspergers syndrome 2014?
I know the DSM5 now claims aspergers as a autism spectrum disorder, however what is the exact diagnosis nowadays, I was also wondering how someone would go about filing for disability with the new diagnosis, is it possible, do you have to prove more than in the past? It used to require less than what was required for autism to apply for disability. Sorry, I was looking through the boards but I found no info on this after the DSM5 came out or anyone going through the process. It might be interesting to know for the future just in case. I was referring to the process in the United States.
Thank you
I believe if you are to be diagnosed now, some still use Aspergers. But if diagnosing specifically by the DSM5 you get 'Autistic Spectrum Disorder', and then a two numbers which correspond to how severe your language and social interaction problems are, and how severe your rigid behaviours are.
So, autistic spectrum disorder - level 2, 2. OR - level 1, level 3. etc. etc. which is better I think than trying to do 'high functioning', 'low functioning', Because functioning in different areas can be very different.

I was wondering about this, I have been diagnosed but I have refused to take a look at what the doctor diagnosed me with, I know it's aspegers and he said it was aspergers but not how he filed it for me. The reason I ask is because recently I realized I keep melting down at jobs in a bad way, and people keep seem to be discriminating against me telling me I am super weird, and giving me the worst jobs, I am starting to become afraid I will have a similar melt-down like I did years ago where I broke my hand at work and lost all sense of reality, that happened only after a year, and since then I simply hid as a student, though I am starting to work again, I am starting to realize the same symptoms, which is surprisingly a bit scary, so I am not sure how functioning I am, but apparently I don't do well around people or with social pressures.

I would like to state that I don't agree with autism speakses general ethos and business practises, but they have the dsm5 criteria on their page along with severity scales CLICK HERE
It sucks that you're having a hard time.
I thought it's been plainly said that people with Asperger's will be diagnosed as being in the HFA catagory.

You seem to have both Aspie and neurotypical traits
What would these results mean? Been told here I must be a "half pint".

There is and never was a 'High Functioning Autism" diagnosis in any of the DSM. HFA is a informal term. Under the DSM 5 there are 3 levels of Autism Spectrum Disorder based on the need for support. The DSM 5 recommends those previously diagnosed with "Asperger Syndrome" under the DSM IV be allowed to keep their diagnoses with the new name "Autism Spectrum Disorder" .
