Hey! I assume many other aspies prefer, and are better at, written communication to verbal communication, but does anyone else tend to use a lot of emoticons and emotional punctuation (?!, ! !! !, etc.) when texting? I've found I use a ton of emoticons and, having just started the journey to get diagnosed, am wondering if this is Asperger's-related. I still don't know if I read emotions intuitively or intellectually (though I am very good at reading faces/voices, better than even NTs, my scores seem to say...). In any case, does anyone else use lots of smileys and punctuation to try to express as much emotion as possible in this "simple" and easy-to-use ways??

OMG, yes. I actually find that I tend to overuse emoticons since it's easier to say that I'm feeling happy, for instance, with a smiley face, rather than by altering the actual "tone" of the words I am writing. There are many different ways to read a sentence, and I find that emoticons help me to get the actual "meaning" across. :P

XD and :P seem to be favorites of mine for some reason. I use :D a lot too.

Yeah, I use emoticons a lot :/ Only have to look at my E-mails to someone I plan to meet up with soon, and all my messages to a friend on Kik messenger. D:

How do I stop myself? xD

I used to do that too :) But I have mostly stopped because some people told me it looked weird or childish.

I am actually poor at emoticons and any pictoral representation.

I have one friend who often sends me "stickers" on facebook message - often I have to repeat the conversation preceding it and then show my Fiance the sticker and have her figure out for me what he is actually trying to say to me.

I do try to use some of them - but it took me a very long time to use them at all. (in fact far more often I just tag, as in #sarcasm #serious #happy)

Part of what I like about talking to people online is that I can express my childish side and not be judged so much for it. Everyone's a little sillier online, myself included. :P
