That was my dad's response to us talking about Aspergers and me saying it's mostly genetic.

"it's not genetic, it's in the air and all that"

He told me this is what he read online and that's what he believes.

While I'm sure it's frustrating, I find their ignorance rather amusing. Sometimes the best cure is to see the humor in the ridiculousness of their reasoning and laugh to yourself. People believe some very strange things.

Folks will say "it's in the air" figuratively about the latest fad, or such.

But never literally!

Except maybe your parents.

Your parents sound like they think its carried by airborne germs!

You'll have to ask them what exactly they mean by "it's in the air"?
