Turn it off black.

I'm wearing a black t-shirt today, like most days.

Autism Speaks makes me feel bad for having blue as one of my favorite colors, and if Susie the coupe were real, I'm sure she'd be ashamed to have blue as her paint job, too. :( They suck. :x

I slowly start to understand why Autism Speaks is unpopular... should probably be called "we only pay attention to NTs, trying to make their situation better because oh the autistics they are so annoying and such a burden - it is not like they have to fight any issues in everyday life - and let's stigmatize autism with even more prejudices which are usually only negative and never even mention the positive side-effects it could have Speaks"...

Sorry, had to.

I won't stop wearing my blue colour though. Why should Autism Speaks control my preferences? I am who I am. :)

Blue is my favorite color. With the whole spectrum of colors why did they have to chose that one?

I just found out that a friend of mine's mother is supporting this campaign, and ironically, she has a son who I suspect to be somewhere on the spectrum. I'm not going to bring it up with her though, because I understand that a lot of her views on things are quite different than mine, and I've never actually told her that I am an aspie. She's a nice person, but she's also kind of an old-fashioned redneck at the same time. :P

Don't they already have colored lights on it anyway? Does it really cost anything?

For the light instillation yes they are already there however, we still paid for the hydro and they are using lights we paid for to support the cause.

My guess would be that they just push a few buttons on a control panel, to change the color of the LEDs. So you would still have to pay for the electricity. They would just be on in a different color.

That said, I agree that it's a crappy cause. But the good thing is, I bet if you asked most people, they wouldn't have a clue why the lights are all blue. Just another day, another color, another pointless cause.

There's a woman who goes to my clubhouse who believes in changing the brain and curing mental conditions. I saw her today with her hair dyed blue, and dressed in various shades of blue. I didn't say anything to her and I doubt I will in the future. I'm planing on buying myself a gold T-shirt today to wear around for the month of April.

My dear kid's school is all about April is Autism Awareness Month. They have two huge bulletin boards with multicolored puzzle pieces. The one board is about disabilities, differences and bullying. The other board is all about the differences on the spectrum. LF/HF/Aspergers/PDD
and SID.

One of the hallways has blue film over the drop ceiling fluorescent light panels. So the hallway is blue.

From what I've heard, the parents are thrilled and nothing negative has been said. Have no clue how the ASD kids think about it. I know they helped up the boards up.

For all the BAD media ASD has gotten in the US, I don't see how this information is bad.

*I do understand all the Autism Speak hate*

This week and next week, the special ed teachers are going to each class to explain the adaptive technology the ASD kids use. My dear kid said there was the IPad with the special software, PEC board, noise cancelling head phones, and an exercise ball (for sitting). They also showed to vids that describe sensory overload from YouTube. One was the person walking into a store and the other was walking down the street. Both links have been on this board before.

The IPad and the head phones where a HUGE issue for the NT kids, who didn't understand why so and so got them.

My dear kid's ASD classmate was out sick when the presentation was given.

Her teacher commented that she had no clue sensory overloads were like that.

We have a new principal who is more receptive about explaining differences. This would have never happened with the old one.
