Body language quiz from the NY Times:

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014 ... -liar.html

I got 6 out of 10 correct. It probably doesn't mean a whole lot, of course, since there's a 50/50 chance of getting the correct answer on each and it's a small sample size. In any case, how well do you do?

9/10--damn, i'm losing my touch.

i grew up with a compulsive liar--and she was GOOD, and i mean good as in she can look you straight in the eye and tell you something that you know for a fact is false...but you believe her anyway because she's that convincing. so i got good at spotting them.

I did pretty well, I got the first 4 correct within seconds and stopped at that. I study body language and read as much as I can about it. I don't think that you can get a representative sampling from people who are told to fake lie. Body language or "tells," come in clusters, and you just can't really judge people like that on a sample of only a few seconds to a couple minutes. you have to allow for observation of an individual for a period of time, before using questions or actions that would evoke movements or behaviorisms that can reliably tell if someone is being honest. I think you are right in these samples that a person would probably be 50/50 without knowing any specifics of body language.

got 6/10 correct - not just a 50/50 because you are changing the odds by the fact you are trying to read the person

I got 7/10. One of them I just plain got wrong, the other two I got right straight away, then kept listening and changed my mind after trying to "logic" through it, and consequently got them wrong. The last four I guessed as soon as I felt I knew, rather than watching the whole thing, and I got them all right. Interesting, thanks for the link.

My score is 8/10.

I think this is a pretty good result for my taste, I guess life trained me a bit and my gathered knowledge was not that useless after all.
People can be really mean and lie to you to lure you into a trap (experiences with bullies), so I had to somehow find a way to tell if someone was lying or not, so I read up on that topic and asked people I trust whether they know how to recognize it - unfortunately, that is still not all too reliable and useful when it is not a video as I will have trouble observing the eyes and I don't know if I should expect a lie or not, so I mostly have to rely on the way the person talks. I really don't know why I can look at people's eyes when it's a video but not in real life - and even when looking at a video I somehow have that general "consume everything that I see" stare I noticed when trying to do more than just looking at the eyes (in this case trying to make a decision). :(

I think it might be worth to share some knowledge, so I will open a separate thread as not to spam this one.

I got a headache after this test... I guess it was a bit too much for today (was an exhausting day), I should post the thread and get some rest now and finally go sleep. It's already almost 7AM here... :?

For me, I couldn't tell at all.

I think they guy in the blue-green jumper lied; on the basis that he didn't know why he liked the math class.
Other than him, I'd say they were all telling the truth.

This 50% chance ruins the game.
it should be like: videos of 5 different people talking and then the question: who is lying?

The one's I got wrong were the guy in the green hoody, the girl in the red t-shirt and glasses, and the guy in the pink striped t-shirt.

6/10

I got the first three right and thought "this is easy" but then was really surprised by some of the ones I got wrong. Some of those people were much better at lying than others.
