Painkillers & pepto bismal?

I mean.
There's actually something that works really well for nausea & lack of appetite, as well as pain, but it's illegal & you're a minor.

Figure it out.

One of the most common uses of medical marijuana is to treat the nausea & lack of appetite as well as pain associated with chemotherapy for cancer patients.

Is that legal for you to get where you are at 17? 8O

I don't believe so. Don't forget though, you're on a forum populated by aspies, she probably didn't read into the implied meaning of your comment. I should know as I didn't even know you were referring to medical marijuana until your second post.

Anyhow, @OP; the best advice I can offer is to just hold your nose, swallow it down as quickly as you can, and chase it with some water.

Take the antibiotic kiddo. Just make yourself do it. You have to. This is not an infection you can play or mess around with. And if you don't take antibiotics as directed to completion the results of that can be really disastrous. It's not for a very long time. Just make yourself take them. I know how you feel. I had to do a liver detox that was horrifying as far as taste and I have to take hot cayenne in liquid form as well and that is sheer torture. But you can do it. It won't be forever.
Hugs,

I have to take sulfa antibiotics for my bladder infection- they smell and taste nasty too.

I try putting juice in my mouth first then pushing the pill in, so it's never in my mouth by itself.

You might try putting your medication in the fridge (although you might want to ask the pharmacist before doing this, just in case it would make it less effective). When things are cold sometimes it deadens the taste of them a little bit.

You could also try sucking on ice cubes to freeze your tongue and dull your sense of taste before taking the pills.

Another tip I've heard of (but never tried myself) is to eat or drink something really strong tasting before you take your medicine -- something like lemon juice or a strong spice -- the idea is that your taste buds will be overwhelmed by the first taste and not register the taste of the medicine as well.

For me, I always hold my breath and close my throat up where it connects to my nose (I don't know if everyone can do this, you just push the back of your tongue against the roof of your mouth, but in any case I find it useful for blocking off smells more than just holding my breath or holding my nostils closed), then I take a mouthful of the water/milk/juice and don't swallow until I tilt my head back and drop the pill into my mouth, so that the liquid provides a barrier between the disgusting tasting pill and my taste buds for the moment before I swallow it.

As for the appetite thing, even a glass of milk or juice is better than taking pills on a totally empty stomach.

When I was little, I had scarlet fever and had to take these horrible pills that tasted awful. I also had to take some terrible (and humongous) pills for an intestinal parasite a few years later (I played survival as a kid long before Bear Grylls made it popular :D ) Both times, I would coat the pill in honey, drink half a glass of milk, tilt my head back and drop the pill as far down my throat as I could, and chug the rest of the milk, sometimes followed by another glass. I'm sure you could try this with other drinks as well, especially soda because it's so sweet. I usually get sick too from taking pills on an empty stomach, and I found that drinking a glass of milk and eating a banana helps more than just about anything else.

Nausea is the worst sensation I have ever experienced, and I have experienced a lot of things that should have been a lot worse (it has to be AS/sensory related). I know exactly how you feel--just remember, this really could mean life or death. It's a time in your life when you just have to be your own army drill sergeant and make yourself do it or else.

Why do medications always have to taste and feel so bad? Its no fun when neurotypical people downplay sensory issues with medication. Anyway maybe hide it in chocolate sauce or ice cream and take big bites?
