I think I got the training wheels taken off when I was 4/5 years old. It had to have been before my parents separated; I remember my dad taking them off at our old house. That may not have been the best idea on my parents' part considering all the times I fell (one time even rode into a mailbox), but I was adamant that once they were off, they stayed off.

I've meant to ask the forum about this myself. I didn't learn to ride a bike until I was 7 (got my first bike of my own for my 8th birthday). I didn't learn to swim until even later. I wasn't able to learn to march when in training for the National Guard. I flunked driver's ed in school the first time around and barely passed the second time around. I can't dance worth a darn. It wasn't until after I got my diagnosis that I realized that it could all be attributed to a deficiency of fine motor schools that went along with being on the spectrum. An awful lot of embarrassing things one goes through start to make a lot of sense in light of an ASD diagnosis.

More interestingly, I have one aunt on my mother's side who never learned to ride a bike or drive a car. She had other mental issues that wouldn't be inconsistent with perhaps being on the spectrum. Another aunt on my father's side didn't learn to drive until her husband was disabled and she had to learn. She still can't (or won't) fill her own gas tank. Siumilarly she also has mental issues that might suggest ASD. Do you think I am on the right track?
