Lets Put It This Way...
People with Autism & Aspergers, I get along better with than NT's ( Which is weird cause I am one ).

After a year with my friend with Asperger's & High - Functioning Autism, I can communicate and understand everyone with Autism or Asperger's. When I first met my friend I Kinda thought he was strange, but yet he was smart just like me. After a while he explained to me what he had, so everything became so much clearer. To me every one of you are normal people. Weather you are Autistic, have Aspergers, or anything else, you are still people.

I find being able to connect with Aspies and people with Autism is a almost essential skill today, since they are becoming more widespread across the world, and maybe in the future there will be less NT's.

Most kids with asperger's that are in school get picked on because of how they act, which I find shameful in the people that are picking on them, because there is a reason that that person acts how they do.

I respect each and everyone of you on this forum, and you guys need to show yourselves to the world. I would like you guys to tell people that you meet,

Quote:
I am and Aspie, and I am proud to be one.
.

If you want to a bit more about me just read my post in the Getting to Know Each Other forum

I appreciate the sentiment, but that's a big ask.

I normally refrain from doing this, but it irks me a little that you come in here and immediately start telling people what they should do, acting like you understand everything because you feel like you understand one person: it's "Whether" not "Weather," and "an aspie" not "and aspie."

ETA: I just saw your introduction, where you mention your age. In that case, let me make it clear that I wouldn't hold it against you for just one instance of that attitude. I still think that you should know how it made at least one person feel and react, for future reference. These things are especially important to remember when dealing with people who have faced persecution because of some basic trait that they have.

I am not really proud to have aspergers, that's just how I was born...that would be like being proud that I have brown hair, just doesn't really make sense to me. I am not ashamed of having it or anything, though it does come with some difficulties that life might be easier without. As for being normal, I don't feel normal and my brain doesn't function normally not that there is anything wrong with that, but if I had a normal functioning brain I would not have autism. The term normal is quite subjective in a lot of contexts though.

I agree with the above comments. LunarOfficial, your message reads like a 'left handed compliment'. :!:

I do as I do because I am who I am. To change me would be a rejection to me. I also like to celebrate my autism. I'm not a pride mite. I like to celebrate all of my differences.

Not something I am able to do. Celebrating something I accomplished (maybe with assistance), never with someone I don't know.

You get along with every autistic person? I can be a real piece of work so I know how challenging it would be for people to get along with me. I hardly get along with them.

I do self-advocacy. People know I have autism. I don't have to tell everyone I meet and I don't like saying I'm an 'Aspie.'

I also like do well with following instructions.

How old is the OP? I'll go check. It would make sense they are a bit younger because of how forward the statement sounds. You need to be careful when using that 'should' word OP. I hope this isn't sounding too harsh to you. When anyone tells me to do something I get anxious and that anxiety is expressed more as rudeness, brushing things off or launching into a rant war.

Yes I understand that not all of you feel comfortable of what I ask. But the real world need a general idea of what the Autism and Asperger world is like. I also want to say sorry if you are offended by this post.

You should be proud, even if your brain does not function right, you are intelligent and you can put that to use. I may just be 13, I may not have it from your perspective, but sometimes certain people can be right, about certain things. I think every person on this earth has something that no one else has but 75% of the population never find it. You should try.

That kind of pride isn't the same as superiority; it means liking who you are and not being ashamed of it. Think of "gay pride" or "black pride"--they aren't trying to declare superiority; they're saying that they're equals. Autism pride is the same way. Or disability pride.

By the way, I'm not sure that "brains not working right" is a very good way to describe autism. It's not damage or dysfunction--not like you'd get if you had been hit in the head, or you had seizures, or something. It's more like, the autistic brain develops differently from the beginning, so that we think differently. It does cause disability, but it's a healthy brain, not a sick one. It's kind of how you might describe someone with dwarfism as "healthy" even though they are so short they need step ladders to reach things in a room designed for average-height people.

You are correct Callista, however I don't know many NTs who are excited to learn 14 different programming languages in three months.
