Hey all,
A Washington Post reporter is doing an article on the asperger's label (benefits/disadvantages of the label) and is looking for teens with Asperger's who might be willing to comment on the "label" and people's reactions to it for an article for the Washington Post. Please respond as soon as possible as her article is going to be completed sometime tomorrow.

Please email the reporter at maiasz@gmail.com sometime tonight.... she seems to be trying to do a really fair article on Asperger's so we should definitely get our voices heard...

I talked to her on the phone and she's really nice and understanding and definitely wants to spin this in a positive way so I would really like you teens to shoot her an email tonight.

Do we have to be in America to do it?

I think its good that she chose WP. If I could get some verification on the location problem, I'll definitely do it!

Because me and Star are a couple, we'd make an interesting pair for the interveiw!

Hi Alex,

This was my opportunity to spread some truth.

Here is what I wrote:

I really don’t mind the label “Asperger’s Syndrome” at least I do now (didn’t used to at first) When I was first diagnosed with the syndrome, my mother told me the label; it was that label that whenever I heard it, it would send me through the roof. I can comment further on that: I think the label also affected adults which my mother told that I had the syndrome. They would treat me differently afterwards, almost like I was 7 years old again. The problem with addressing AS with a label is that these people have little or no knowledge of syndrome. But now I am content that I have seen the positive attributes of AS. I love my excellent eidetic memory and problem-solving skills. What I want to see, now that I have accepted that I have a disorder is to see some documentary on television (more awareness) on Asperger’s Syndrome. That would really make my day.

I hope this helps your report,

Consider my two cents,

David

Well, despite the fact that we haven't met, we plan to. And even then, we love each other, and I thought that's what counts for a couple!

Judging by the fact that we say that we love each other every time we meet and every time we leave, I'd say we do. :)
