is this an Aspie thing? (Or Autism thing?)

People keep telling me to stop analyzing things all the time. They'll say something, I'll ask a question that to me seems like a question everyone on the room would want to know, but people will get a look on their faces and say, Don't start analyzing again!

Or for instance (I can't remember if I've mentioned this here), but a while back my boss mentioned something I'd never heard of in an email to our entire department so I looked it up and sent an email to everyone saying, in case you were wondering.... All my work friends were laughing at me (not in a mean way, but they were saying, There she goes).

I don't get how people can not be curious or interested in stuff. But if the conversation turns to some movie star (who of course i know nothing about) - they're off and running.

That's work for you LOL.......That's what "regular" people want to talk about: movie stars, the latest reality program.

Hey Skibum!

I would say, yes, this is totally an Aspie thing.

One time, while watching a movie with my family, I made the same kind of question that you mentioned, the kind that no one else is really interested in. My stepmom said "You don't HAVE to analyze everything, just enjoy yourself!" and I responded with a smile: "Analyzing IS how I enjoy myself!"

I'm not ashamed of my passion for analyzing things, but I've learned that there's a time and place for it, and not everyone is going to share my passion for unraveling details. I keep most of my questions to myself unless I'm with certain close friends. Through my discretion, I've even found a few people who admire my unusual amount of analysis.

Yup - all of that is classic Aspie stuff.

LOL..I was the one that said Hi---KraftieKortie! LOL

I probably have ADHD, as well as undiagnosed Asperger's. I'm not very analytical.

She didn't say hi to me

Better luck next time, I guess LOL

Maybe I'm over-analyzing?

I over analyse everything

conversations e.g. did that person mean what they said?
body things e.g. why does my head hurt?
problems I have e.g. why do I get anxious?
world things e.g. why is the sky blue?

its going on all the time, I also analyse other peoples actions/personalities and my own and diagnose, its a bad habit, I am not even a psychologist its just so fun to do

also have a lot of what if's e.g. what if I get burgled in the night when I am on my own? what if a tree falls into my bedroom? what if I get assaulted while out at night?

I also love to analyse films and books, its partly why I can watch and read over and over
e.g. Dumbledore's reasoning, character and hidden agenda's throughout all the harry potter books

For me "over analyze" is a bit of an understatement. Just don't get me started into why I think that is...

I analyze everything from morning till night.
When I read something I stop intermittently to analyze what I've read.
I analyze conversations I've had in the past.
I analyze things I read on WP.
I pace the floor analyzing things.
I lose track of time analyzing things.
When I appear to be daydreaming, I am actually in my head analyzing things.

^ ^ ^ This. But I don't normally pace and think. I only pace when on the phone (which isn't that often). Instead, I take my dog on long walks and think.

I don't consider it over-analyzing. I consider it how my mind just IS. I consider a LOT of possibilities. It allows me to be rational. When you don't understand the world around you, your mind can attempt to consider different possibilities in order to learn. That's what you are doing. You are attempting to learn.

People are surprised that I ask "Why?" all of the time. They seem to automatically understand motivations (or so they think), so they don't have to do this. Yet, I literally need to know WHY someone just did something. I observe people and then explore reasons.
