I have always had obsessive qualities but I did not have any obsessions in early childhood. My first obsession came at 12 it wasn't spaceships but rather the 'design' behind them so it included all the scientific parts of it. Nuclear fusion, antimatter, gravity, atomic substructure and re-structuring etc... anything that would be useful in their design and function even cryonics and artificial wombs. Since then my obsessions have been a-typical all consuming and disruptive for my life. I'm late twenties now. Did anyone else not find an obsession until their pre-teen years?

Thank you.

i was VERY obsessive when i was little, Repetitive and obsessive.

i used to obsess over toys, objects, and actions.

i was obsessed with Stacking and making Piles of things. every night i would take all the clothes from my closet and pile them up in my door way, and i would go into my moms Spice drawer and stack all the spice bottles up, every day, around the same time.

i also had a favorite toy, a soft foam snail that i so 'cleverly' named "snaily" ( i was terrible at naming my toys.) it never left my side, before that it was a Molly doll from Big Comfy Couch, after that i had a bear with stars on the pants and named her 'stars'. anyways, the rest is predictable, still have favorite toys today.

Yes, I never had obsessions when I was little. I thought I was the only Aspie here that didn't.

My first actual obsession was when I was 11. I am a people-obsesser (if that's a word?), and so at 11 I suddenly developed an obsession with an art teacher. Then at 12 I got over the art teacher and became obsessed with Spanish people. Then at 13 I got over that obsession, and began a rather intense obsession with a certain man who happened to be a window-cleaner (it was also my first crush). That obsession lasted about 4 years, then I got over that and replaced it with bus-drivers, and I have been obsessed with bus-drivers ever since.

But before I was 11, I didn't have any obsessions, just casual interests, or ''NT-like'' obsessions, not the same type of obsessed as an Aspie gets.

Kind of. I had routines and repetitive things I did when younger, though. I had a narrowed interest in certain sciences, but no one allowed me to learn what I wanted, so that kind of didn't turn into an obsession. I think the first real obsession I remember was either being obsessed with people or conspiracy theories/ancient civilizations/mythology. Well, when I was younger I lived in my head a lot (fantasizing) but I don't think it was nearly on the level of others. So, in a way, I didn't have an obsession. It wasn't recognized when I was younger because it didn't take up most of my life. Now, however, I have an issue with my special interests taking over my life.

you know I am not sure, depends what you class as obsession though, I liked those aliens in plastic eggs, and collecting cards

I was pretty obsessed with Hermione from Harry Potter from the age of probably 7-13 I tried to emulate her, particularly in class which now I see as embarrassing. I also read the books again and again just for the things about Hermione, I particularly liked the 5th book where she gets injured which I suppose is a bit strange.

Then I got obsessed with Snape instead, although I did not try to emulate him thankfully

I can only remember obsessing about collecting, esp toys. If I liked something, I wanted them all. Of course this rarely happened...

I think maybe some have a tendancy to only remember the later ones because those are more of a part of who we are as adults. For a long time I thought my first obsession was evolutionary biology starting also around age 12 or there abouts. If I look back in a really introspective way... there were obsessions before that. I'm just no longer interested in them so it's very hard to think of them "like that" also, since I was young, I have no memory of how much time I spent doing things so my guess is that looking back at those ages, I percieve my obsessions as "normal" and nothing out of the ordinary. So if I had to guess, I would say that Mr Rogers NEighborhood was really truly my first obsession as I watched it from age 2 or so till I was 9, in earnest and would still try to catch it if it was on well into my teens. I also followed his life, best as I could, in those pre internet days. In addition, I have memories of being DRAGGED kicking and screaming from the TV when my mom had to run an errand and it interrupted my enjoyment of Fred. So from this, I can reasonably conclude that I had an obsession, since I was young I did not consider it an obsession because I did not know what such a thing was, and it wasn't until I got much older that I realize I took a deep and unatural interest in certain things in ways that other people and children did not.
