Hey guys,

Today I am finally going to my GP to get my referral for my diagnosis. :D

I am very nervous, and I have a question. Do I simply go to my doctor and say I would like a referral or do I have to explain to him what I am feeling etc? I don't know how I should start off, any help would be much appreciated!

I just asked my doctor if I could be evaluated for Asperger's. He didn't ask why... he just said that it is on the autism spectrum (nothing I didn't already know). I told him that years ago I had taken an online Asperger's test and that it indicated a strong possibility of it, and told him that I felt I am getting worse. He basically said 'no problem, I'll refer you to someone' and within a week or so I got the referral letter in the mail & all I had to do was phone to confirm it with the office of the new doctor.

Easy peasy really. I've noticed that most of the time during my appointments with him I have a hard time with eye contact - who knows, perhaps he's noticed it too & that's why he didn't bat an eye at my request (pun intended!)

He originally set me up to go see a psychologist who is booked all the way into November. The receptionist suggested another psychologist who's in the same building who's available alot sooner. So my doctor sent a referral to that doctor. However I just read the reviews of both of them on an online doctor review site and the one who I'm seeing next week has terrible reviews - I'm a bit concerned. I still have the appointment with the other one though, so if I don't like this one I'll wait till November for the other one. Maybe that's why he's busier - he's nicer!

Okay, seems pretty straight forward. Glad I won't have to say too much then. Thanks :D

I'm guessing you're in the UK, could someone talk me through this process? I tried going to my GP a while ago and just got given a phone number for an autism helpline, I'd really appreciate anyone's help in getting a diagnosis.
