Intelligence.

We are smart and someone finds intelligence threatening.

This is a guess.
Spelling errors?
Quote my resources.
Any actually relevant arguments out there?

Are you suggesting intelligence is the cause of autism? Really?

That would make autism the norm in society wouldn't it?

You haven't spent much time in PPR, have you? We're not all smart, and some of us act downright stupid.

http://sfari.org/news-and-opinion/news/ ... telligence
An estimated 40 percent of individuals with autism have significant levels of intellectual disability, defined as an IQ below 52. About 30 percent have IQs between 53 and 70, and the remaining 30 percent score at least 100, the population average.

.
Nobody really knows the cause of autism.

Once it's clear one has it. cause doesn't really matter anymore, in any practical way.
It's a completely different question on whether it should be prevented or not.

I have a new hypothesis.

Mixed messages cause Autism.
We chose honesty instead of 'politeness'. We chose correctly according to Etiquette.

Social Norms, standards for polite behavior, were taught in the Public Schools until 1962.

Then the standards changed.

Then the standards changed. Honesty became 'impolite'.
Polite behavior shows consideration and honesty.

You did nothing wrong.
You are not dysfunctional (comparatively.)

Are you happy?

My own opinion.....

I figure the man upstairs made me this way for a reason. I don't know the reason why but who am I to question his wisdom.

In the meantime I'm enjoying discovering who I am and the whole wide wonderful world (and universe) I'm in.

My only hope is that I have a long and healthy life because I find there is never enough time for me to wonder at the universe and to do all the things I want to do, explore and learn.

:D

It is a known fact that the number of autistic cases keeps going up. back in the 1980's, There was a 1 in 10,000 chance of having autism. Today, it's around 1 in 88 and growing. whether or not It's caused by the modern world and the higher demand for greater intelligence it requires is still to be debated.

The number of diagnosed autism cases is going up. We have no evidence that autism is actually on the rise, just that it's more diagnosed.

Hypothesises on ASD have to include all, including those with severe forms. Your cherry picking off one end of the spectrum, which makes it invalid.

Lack of oxygen to the brain during birth - the umbilical cord was wrapped around my neck for a couple of minutes.

No, we have no idea if our category of 'autism' is actually biologically meaningful. If we look at the known causes of autism (which together account for only a small minority of autistics), some of those conditions only cause low functioning autism, and some only higher functioning autism. So it's certainly plausible to think of a cause for HFA that isn't involved in LFA.

I'm highly skeptical of that theory but mine was as well. What I find interesting in that even though some ASD traits run in the family (late Uncle and Father are computer geeks for example) I am the only one who even comes close to the ASD criteria. Besides, wouldn't that have made my IQ lower rather than higher than average?

I increasingly consider an interesting theory the idea that Aspergers is gender blending + slow development. It was a surprise I was a boy because everyone thought I was a girl and I even felt like more like a girl in my early years. My name was even supposed to be Amy and mom had to come up with a boy's name quickly  Every ASD male I know is far more 'feminine' than most men and the opposite is true for Aspie girls being more 'masculine' and we don't even need to get into the whole late bloomer thing.
