Right now I am working at a job that I am very lucky to have, I am treated very well as an employee, but at the same time, as a person, it's kind of stressful due to typical social problems. NOt only that, but probably pretty much like everyone in America, I am concerned about layoffs. So I'm trying to work toward (a) work that stimulates me and is fun, (2) less social stress, and (3) income stream without having to work a full time job.

These are my plans -

1. Writing a novel. I sort of think that when I finish it, if I can get people to read it, it will do well. However, I know that everybody thinks that about their novels so I have backup plans.

2. 2 nonfiction books, both based on special interests - subjects I am passionate about and enjoy writing about.

3. I've already self-published one book on journal writing, but I think I have to pull it and rewrite it - it's more like a pamphlet now, needs to be a real book (I thought that would be ok since it's 99 cents, but I guess it's not).

4. I want to start an Autism publishing company where we can all publish books about our special interests and maybe make at least a little money.

5. I want to be an inventor too as I mentioned in my other thread, but so far only ideas - like bttbyrr (sorry if I spelled i wrong) says, you have to DO something. I have a million ideas, I wish I knew how to make them come to life!

I know a lot of people here are struggling both emotionally and monetarily - I'm wondering, does anybody else have any thing they are working on for the future?

I am in the slow and deliberate process of writing a crime novel. I am confident, unlike you, that when people read it, it will be well received. Oh wait, you think the same thing as well. Heck, us Asperger's folks writing those darn novels and thinking they'll be well received are a dime a dozen, huh?

I'm working on the bucket list! Saw a surgeon today to arrange my second (and hopefully last hip replacement operation, which is happening in 3 months' time, and then six months until the muscles and deep tissues heal fully, and then I am going to get back to power walking, horse riding, travelling, and all the things I haven't been able to do for the past 6 years when both hips became too disabling and painful to live the way I wanted to.

Also on the bucket list is to review and edit and collate all the first draft poems I have been scribbling for years and to write a memoir to leave to my family in years to come.

And to live in Thailand for 3 months, seeing more of the country there than I have seen on a brief visit in the past.

Am feeling very excited about the future, despite being an oldie. :)

I LOVE your ideas! If you check out divergentlabs.org, and click Rhizome program, you will find out about a brand new project dealing with Autistic employment and finances. I have been invited to be a "Rhizome Core" member and I am beyond excited about the potential! An Autistic publishing company is something I feel needs to be an integral part of this endeavor.

We will be at ocate Cliffs the last 2 week ends of the month, My son will be helping to build evaporative toi;ets, trails, and possibly a treehouse. Bobby and I will be not only be bringing LJ to the site, but meeting a couple of the group. A publishing company, and how to get it started is one thing I plan to bring up, If you are seriously wanting to do this, I could ask other members if you could be sent an invitation to the core group. We are looking for people with a serious passion for change. No one working on this is being paid. But, ultimately, we are looking at opportunities for employment and entrepeneurship for Autistics.

Vicky, if you mean this month, that would be too short notice for me to get away - but I would love to be part of the group if possible. I also think a publishing company is necessary, we have way too many stifled voices that need to be set free! The only real way to educate people about Autism is through our own voices.

I'm glad Bobby is feeling well enough to make the trip - he must be doing great! :D

I forgot to mention - evaporative toilets - haha I'm on a whole toilet obsession. Love that idea, have to do more research.

Not just Aspies, seems like half the population thinks they're writing bestsellers. But if you notice, very few books, even the bestsellers are without flaws. It seems to me like if you can get the word out and it's not a horrible book, that's half the battle.

B19 - good for you! No more pain and a bright future!

Okay, I'm not in denial. I am aware that heart faliure is progressive.but, he is under 200 pounds now, he has not needed to be on oxygen for weeks, his bp and heart rate are both normal. He is eating super healthy [finally] and gets exercise almost every day. He is doing better and thank you. We will not be staying the week. LJ will be . It's about a 5 hour drive each way and we are going to take it easy by staying overnight both when we bring him and also when picking him up which will keep Bobby from overdoing it plus give me a chance to talk to others who are part of Rhizome Core.

Oh, and we still need to read some of each others work. I really want to read your novel, or at least an excerpt from it.

Maybe you could create some things around your special interests, like introductory material for others who want to learn to do the same thing if they involve doing something. I find that there are many things that I want to do, but often lack of good intro to get me started, as I don't have time to go through bunches of crap resources on the Internetz which could eventually lead me to my goal of learning XYZ, but good intro would speed that up for me.

That's a really great idea! I've had to struggle to figure a lot of stuff out myself, I could write about what I've learned.
Can you give me some examples of things you'd be interested in?
The two non-fiction books I'm writing are on creative writing and database design and implementation.

That is so great. I was under the impression (but you probably know more than me), that heart failure was relative and a person could live a long time with good quality of life. I hope you guys get to relax and have a great time. LJ I'm sure will have a blast!

We can trade some work in a few weeks maybe!

Yes. Myself. Health/fitness. Health is wealth.. look after the former and the latter starts to fall into place automatically.

As for business/entrepreneurship, I've had tons of ideas, but one fairly big one that's been evolving for 5+ years now. Bit by bit the jobs that I do teach me the skills I'll need for the business I want to launch in the future. It'll involve doing some contracting work, which is why I keep working various construction jobs & learning bits and pieces of different trades. Eventually I'll bring it all together and do my own thing. Might be a couple years or so out yet until I truly get going on what I have in mind, but in the meantime I may take on a small contracting project here and there to get my feet wet.

Now THERE'S an idea! :D I've actually considered writing a book about my life, and an Autism publishing company would be the perfect place to get it published. Who needs "Half Price Books" when you have a publishing company like that?

Here's a link to a thread about mine. Feel free to post there.

Hope your hip replacement surgery goes well and you get to do the "bucket list" activities

I read just today that we Autistics tend to be happiest in our later years.

That's certainly true for me.
