I've commuted to the uni that is about 30 minutes away from my home for the last two years and I'm about to move into my own apartment downtown because my mother thinks it is time. I was not overly worried about this because I'll still be living very close to home, but my parents went away on vacation for the past week and the result of me being on my own for a week was poor to say the least. I had forgotten to eat food for two of the days simply because I was preoccupied with something else and the rest of the days I was only managing about a meal per day. Without getting too detailed, that was just a small way that I fell off the wagon. It's like I can do ____ or I can do ____, but I cannot do ____ then ____ then ____ in any given day. I'm just worried that with how much trouble I have with school every year that I will end up buckling under the stress especially with the added stress of being on my own. How were things for you when you first moved out?

I actually enjoyed moving out--I got away from my mother! This was in the early 1980s.

This must be a new trend, Americans calling college "Uni" LOL----I guess the world's really getting smaller!

I believe, especially if your parents are there to offer support, that you could swing it living along, and going to "Uni."

Like ikerio said, make a schedule for meals and other important stuff and post it up where you'll see it: on the refrigerator or your computer. Or on a pad or a phone if you carry it around with you in the apartment.

Take the time to make your appartment cozy and 'your own place' and it'll work out well.

When I first moved out I wasn't good at planning meals, but I lived two blocks from a grocery store. So, every day when I walked home from university I'd stop by the grocery store to pick out what I wanted to eat for supper. It became a comforting routine and the whole choosing what I wanted to cook and eat even became somewhat fun. If I wanted raspberry pie for dessert I could get raspberry pie - just had to watch I didn't blow my food budget.

Good luck :D
