For about a period of about five years, I did yoga regularly. It was only from a DVD because I'm not a "joiner" -- I can't stand classes and doing things with a group of strangers. But I found the best DVD I could, made by a working instructor who really seems to know her stuff and has taught an actual real-life class for years. During the time I followed that DVD, I honestly did feel calmer, stronger, both in mind and body. I found it extremely beneficial.

My life got disrupted and I fell out of a lot of my good habits, including doing my yoga. I've lost all the benefits of it and feel lousy. I know if I start again I'll feel much better again.

I would recommend yoga to anyone. Even my at-home practice without a real life instructor or class seemed to do me a world of good.

I'm doing a bastardization called PiYo right now, but I like it. Lots of core strengthening to save my back.

A few years ago after I had been studying eastern philosophies for some time, I realized that what I have been doing on the bicycle with the guitar since the early 1980s is a form of Yoga. In fact, it is more than one form of Yoga. It is action yoga because there is physical activity involved (pedaling, playing guitar, keeping balanced etc.) and it is also sound yoga obviously because of the music. What I do as The Bicycling Guitarist is a meditation in motion. I have traveled at least forty thousand miles doing this all on the same bicycle the past three decades.
