There seems to be something very voyeuristic about myself and I wonder if other aspies experience this too. I'm referring to people-watching.. not peeping-toms.. this is not what it's about.

This may come from our ability to observe others have fun and enjoy life but our inability to actually do it ourselves.

people watching... getting your social fix by observing others enjoy various aspects of life.. watching people talk to eachother.. both in real life and on social networks, spend time together, reading what they write to eachother, hug, kiss in public, watching people do whatever they do when they're alone, and possibly more risque stuff without going into specifics.

There is something that fascinates me about how people interact with each other... some people do it with such natural skill and ease....

Is this an aspie thing?

Does anyone else out there get their social satisfaction by watching other people?

Yes, not in a sexual way though.

I also enjoy hearing the rubbish some people talk about in waiting rooms. :D

I do sometimes to study people to help in my analyzing others and myself.

I don't do this all the time or never, but more like in between. I mostly do this at times of free time and open-mindedness or when forced to accompany people to social events, and when I feel non dysphoric of other humans and not overwhelmed by things.

I do a bit of that, too. It's interesting to see the eye movement of people looking out the window at the changing scenery when on the train.

gad no, watching people is boring.

I don't think it's an Aspie thing--I think NTs do it, a lot, too.

But, yes, I like to watch people. I like the bright colors in their clothing and the cadence of their speech. I'm usually too far away to hear what they are actually saying, and anyhow I have auditory processing problems that would make it a chore to pick out words anyway, so when I listen to people talk, I listen to them the way I would listen to a song.

I think for me it's kind of relaxing to just watch other people. I get hypnotised by it.

I don't really get involved with what they're saying, because most conversations go completely over my head.

I like to watch people sometimes. My mom (NT) got me into it when I was younger because sometimes she would point people out and we would play this game where we would make up silly things they could be thinking or what job they have, etc. based on what they are doing. It was probably good for me to learn to think like that, and I do it by myself sometimes now when I'm bored out in public.

I people watch.
Not all the time.
And not just when I'm feeling lonely, either.
So, none of the poll options apply.

If I'm out for a long walk/trek I'll stop and watch people at the beach, people shopping, outside on patios/in bar lineups, at parks, in various "different" places from Chinatown to the financial district to the hippy area or public transit stations and so on. It's interesting to observe very different groups of people doing their thing all over the city.

No. I don't understand them. And I'm usually in my own world most of the time.

I find it too depressing to watch people, I much prefer to get out in the sticks, away from it all and watch nature instead.
