not sure what to think about this...
I just told my brother about my ASD Dx, and the first thing he texts me is that I should look into this doctor (a chiropractor) and that he may be able to help, and he sends me this link: http://neputewellnesscenter.com/
Has anyone else been told that chiropractic can improve autism? My initial thought is that this is one of those BS autism "miracle cures", and was about to reply with that thought, but I decided to look into it before claiming it's BullS***.
Has anyone else heard this, or know if there's any validity to chiropractic being an effective treatment for autism?

Never heard of an association between Asperger's and Chiropractic medicine
I did a Google search. There seems to be research linking improving in autistic symptoms and treatment by a chiropractor. Nothing is presented as a "cure-all." I haven't read any of the articles--but the articles are definitely there once you Google "Chiropractic care and autism."
Did you explain to your brother what Asperger's is? Maybe he thinks it's a muscular disorder.

Chiropracty is usually fantastic therapy -- for pain management and related physical symptoms. But, I have serious doubts about its efficacy when a few chiropractors say infamously that their therapies can cure cancer, lose weight, attract more women and even make a person rich.
Have you explained to your brother that the neurology that affects Autism Spectrum Disorders isn't the physiology/kinesiology that affects muscle and joint pain?
Scratch that. Your brother means well, so I would thank him and say that there are other more-pressing treatments that you would like to explore first; like, maybe Cognitive Behavior Therapy and just getting familiar with having ASD.

I did chiropractic treatment for years and loved it, but it has nothing to do with decreasing ASD symptoms. What it's good for is alleviating back pain and physical symptoms associated with having vertebrae out of whack. It helped with my neck/upper back pain and sciatica. As a side benefit, it also seemed to stop my semi-yearly sinus infections.
Where it might be especially useful for an Aspie is if you're a sloucher or tend to keep yourself in awkward positions. Having bad posture or overworking muscle groups can put pressure on your nerves and muscles and lead to a variety of other problems.
I'm honestly not sure how much my brothers know about autism.
Right after I told my oldest brother about my Dx (over instant messenger) He said "Call me!" I had already explained a few times that I don't do well talking face to face about complex subjects compared to communicating through text. ![]()

Yeah, that doesn't change too quickly or too much in families, especially if the person with AS and/or ASD is an adult. My lunch today with my mother and a sister of mine proved that fact to me yet again. Your family knows you for who you have always been, and can't think of you in this new way especially when what's new about you seems complicated.

I have actually heard about a chiropractor that says he can help Autistic people. I don't think that it can do anything to change the fact that you are Autistic but anything that makes you healthier, more balanced, more relaxed and anything that helps your body function better will be helpful overall. Chiropracty helps every system in the body. It affects the nervous system as well as the bones and muscles and helps the body function properly. So that in and of itself will help you. If you can do things to keep your body and mind in good condition it will help you. When our bodies are not functioning at their peak, our Autistic traits can become worse since our bodies are under more stress than they would be if they were functioning efficiently and properly. But if you choose to do chiropractic you want to couple it with massage as well.
But about your brother, I would just thank him for being well intended. When I first told my sister that I had found out I was on the Spectrum she suggested I get $10.00/ hour therapy from the Jewish Community Center. I just said, 'thank you for your suggestion", because it was genuine concern, and I never brought up the subject again.

I liked this one too.
Chiropractic, if it is done gently, can help soothe a stressed or jangled up nervous system. No chiropractic is not a "treatment" for autism but it might help with some autism-related symptoms. It may be especially helpful if you have low muscle tone and/or poor posture. Personally I am way more prone to having meltdowns when I am also having back problems.
But when I used to go to a chiropractor, on some occasions they would (literally) hit a raw nerve in a way that made me feel edgy and oversensitive for days afterwards. I felt like every visit was a gamble on whether it would make me feel better or worse.
Many chiropractors will try to tell you that what they do can cure or treat practically anything. They are usually not scam artists, just well-meaning people who are self-deluded. But if you tend to take things literally or at face value it can really screw with your head to be around someone who is sucked up in their own delusions. I would especially avoid the ones who are very religious and make that a part of their practice.

Never heard of it and I don't see how chiropractic work could benefit autism.. unless it's merely stress relieving like massage therapy.
If you want to look into treatments that benefit autism, read the link in my signature & feel free to pm me. I've managed to reduce my symptoms to near bill & get back to work and life better than ever. I'm healthier and wealthier for it.
I know I sound like a broken record on these forums, but like I said many times over: Just because you don't believe me doesn't make me a liar. Not that you've called me one.. I'm just saying it in advance; stating that everything I've posted about this is the God's honest truth of what I've done.
