Do you enjoy going on holidays, or do you find it stressful?

my family is going on holiday soon, and I either have to go or stay on my own for a week, both options are bad so I don't know what to do. I am panicking about the holiday, I don't know what the destination looks like, I am scared to go in the car for as long as we will be and I am scared of being somewhere unfamiliar.

I used to be better with holidays but its seems to gotten worse as I have gotten older. :(

I am absolutely horrible with holidays. I always get drained when I am in the car and am biting everyone's head off, when we get to the destination. I would much rather just stay home or only go somewhere far away... like once a year. My questions for you would be: do you have some way to stim or recharge while you are in the car? Or even once you get there? Can you look at pictures online to see what the place looks like so you (kind of) know what to expect before you get there?
If you would prefer to stay home, what would be the negatives of staying there alone-- for you personally?

am unable to cope with holidays and have never been on one as a result though now am much better medicated hope to one day go to america/disney world.

franknfurter,
woud it be possible to get hold of photos of the places are going to be going to, photos of inside the rooms as well, and perhaps plan a visual timeline/schedule of what will happen?
if have got a smart phone or ipad or normal tablet,install the autiplan app;
http://www.autiplan.com/
its free and can plan what will happen every day,am a user of this and laminated PECS timelines and find them extremely calming for unfamiliarity.

try and take along things from bedroom so it can be put in the same places and make it feel a bit more familiar than it does, bring the same quilt etc.

I don't enjoy holidays. A day out having fun is okay but multiple days gone from home is impossible. I have dogs also so I can't leave them alone so long.

Are you scared to be alone?

As long as the holidays are just with my wife and I, or with another couple who are our best friends, and doing the things we like to do then yes I do enjoy holidays :D

My wife and our best friends are aware of and respectful of my needs and we work it out to ensure everyone is happy. When we travel with our friends we spend some time together but we split off as couples and do our own things as well.

When it's just my wife and I travelling, the things we like to do are hiking, exploring, beach time, nice (quiet) restaurants, taking some relaxing time.

We usually rent a vacation rental by owner (VRBO) instead of a hotel room. It's nice to have one's own home-away-from-home and not be disturbed, eat in if you want, not have the maid knocking on the door, etc. We are planning a trip to Yosemite and San Francisco for the fall and I'm looking forward to it.

I am just as scared to be home alone, I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks quite a bit, being alone is a trigger.

I can't find any specific pictures unfortunately, its in a caravan and I have never been in one.

the main thing I want to take that with keep me calm is my laptop but apparently there is no internet capabilities where we are going.

I am not so worried about the specific plans for things to do while I am there because its all relaxed and we don't have to do anything in particular.

the car is very scary, I have a balance problem which makes me dizzy, along with having a phobia of vomiting its very anxiety inducing, I have also developed a bit of an agoraphobic problem in the last couple of months so the anxiety about this is very high.

I feel like I am being tortured by the decision, I end up lashing out at my parents for planning this holiday, that might seem ungrateful but I just find holidays stressful, I always like being at home and sleeping in familiarity

I fear that there is not much to be done, I have beta blockers and I will be taken Phenergon, eugh I just get so scared of the unknown and the car it makes me so unhappy.

thank you for the advice though, its also nice to know that I am not the only one who dislikes holidays, most people I talk to love them and don't see why I have problems with it

Yeah, most people like them but all of them are glad to be back when it's over. Never got that. Sitting for hours in a bus or car with mostly freeways to look at and then when you arive unpacking and all that stuff. Then they sit by a pool or something and that's it. What's fun about that? But that's just weird little me ;)
