These last couple years have been nothing but hell on me, seems everything keeps going wrong, and just when I think things cant get much worse, they do.

I have rather extreme social anxieties, when feeling overwhelmed I go into having panic attacks, and they sometimes last for days. I just got onto disability primarily because of that and Aspergers. and no sooner did i get onto disability, the people I worked for gave me notice to move (I am renting from them too), and then as I was out and about trying to find a new place to move I bumped into a car in a parking lot (my son was being distracting while I was trying to back up). I got out to look at the car only to see no damage what so ever, not even a scratch, I should have left a note with my insurance number and the like, but instead my anxieties flared and the image of an angry person started running through my mind, so I told my self no harm no fowl ill just leave., well apparently someone seen what happened then called the cops and next thing I knew they were knocking on my door and then ticked me for leaving the scene of an accident. and now, during this whole time I am waiting to go to court my anxieties wont let me stop thinking about it and just the thought of having to go to traffic court and being around all those other people and having to deal with the judge too is leaving me in a virtual state of having panic attacks. and the accident just happened at the beginning of this month and I have to go see the judge at close to the end of this month. What gets me, is all this could have been avoided if I had at least left a note with my information on it, but instead I let my anxieties get the better of me which made a bad situation become much much worse then it needed to be. I didn't leave to avoid any responsibility, I left because of my anxieties were getting the better of me and I seen absolutely no damage, not even a scratch. when all I had to do was leave a note with my information on it.

Any of you have that kind of problems with anxieties?

It can't be an "accident" without damage, therefore you can't leave the "scene."

Get a lawyer, don't complain, don't make excuses or "reasons," you "can't." just get a flippin lawyer.
Don't screw around with this.

I advise you to get a lawyer if you can in any way afford it. I don't know if you are in the US but if so you should be able to get a court appointed one. I know this is perhaps just a traffic thing but obviously you won't be able to advocate for yourself. Did they issue you a ticket for leaving the scene or is it a criminal charge? If it's a ticket usually you can just pay it and avoid court all together.

I have had bad anxiety problems, too, and I can see this kind of thing happening to me a few months ago when my anxiety was much worse than it is right now.

Its a misdemeanor "hit and run", and the clerks changed the numbers on file for the ticket, it was at first just leaving the scene of an accident, then the clerks changed it to hit and run, they said it was the same thing so it didn't matter. and no, I have to go to court over it, I wish I could just simply pay the fine and be done with it.

Did you actually know about the formality of leaving a note and simply forgot because of the anxiety or were you not aware of steps to take when involved in these cases?
If there was no visible damage what is the fuss about?....... I don't get it!

I knew just my mind at the time went totally blank with anxieties.

I don't know how big a bump was but if you inspected the car and saw no damage at all (not even a scratch) I don't see why it is such a big thing....what are they going to do?... life imprisonment?

had a cop sideswipe me a few years back (he was on an emergency call without lights/siren and i was trying to dodge an ambulance that DID have lights/siren going), then chased me down and tried to say i left the scene..... but i claimed no new damage to my old car, and 4 cops could find no new damage to his old cruiser, so i got of easy with only an $80 reckless lane-change ticket.

so go to court and have them prove damage had been done. if they can't, then no accident occurred, and no accident scene to leave.

@InTheDeepEnd - i'm pretty sure court appointed lawyers are for felonies only, not traffic court.

Thats the odd thing, the court clerks gave me paperwork to ask for an attorney. when its just supposed to be traffic court.
