(I do not mean having the flu while pregnant increasing the risk of having a child with autism.)

To your knowledge, have any of you (or your children) developed autistic symptoms after a case of the flu at a young age?

I ask because I had my first flu infection at 11 months old, and I'm pretty sure it did something to my hearing. However, beyond that, I have been wondering if influenza at a young age has ever been linked to autism.

I always believed that something caused me to have Asperger's when I was a toddler, and that I was not born with it. This is because there was no birth complications during birth, and my mum had a normal healthy pregnancy and didn't smoke or drink alcohol, and I wasn't born prematurely, and nobody else in my family has ASDs, and I'm a girl too. So I always say that something else gave me this s**t. That is a shame because I think I was born as a neurotypical, and so was going to have normal social skills throughout my life.

I don't think I really had a bad case of flu when I was a toddler. I did get strep every year in grade school, but it definitely did not contribute to my diagnosis of PDD-NOS.

I had pneumonia as a child but I highly doubt that caused it.

I had pneumonia when I was 6 mos. old, but I don't know what that----or, the flu----would have to do with "getting" Autism, unless similar meds are given, for either. I'm so totally concerned about getting ANY kind of injection for anything, because I've read so much over the years about ingesting metals / metallic substances----like, the Zinc in denture adhesive, mercury in vaccinations, lead in paint, and on children's toys, metals in toothpaste, drugs (over-the-counter, or prescription), etc.

The only things, that I know of, that I got from having pneumonia, is the propensity to have it again (I've had it 3 times), and arched veins in my hands where they put-in the IVs (you know how your veins run, like, from your wrist to your fingers? well, mine run from my wrist, across the bottom of where my fingers attach, down to the wrist, again).

Doctor's appointment today. He thinks I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis, based on blood tests and symptoms.

Do any of you have thyroid issues?
