such as forward summersaults? Though there are many things I have had a lot of trouble doing there really isn't much that I absolutely cannot do. But when I was in the seventh grade - which admittedly was a little while ago - I was just uncoordinated enough not to be very good at hardly any sports except I could almost hold my own for soccer. Otherwise I pretty much sucked at everything else. But when it came to gymnastics - especially things like hand springs, cartwheels and forward summer saults - I didn't just suck - I flat out could not do them - at all. It wasn't just a matter of being afraid or intimidated - it was more than that - it was like those neurons that control such things simply would not fire for me - at all.

Since I was the only kid in my 7th grade class that could not do these basic gymnastics - and was cruelly bullied for it - I'm wondering now if something related to ASD might have accounted for this odd deficit.

I can't do anything gymnastic related. D: I think a lot of it could be related to poor motor skill and coordination. My body sort of doesn't connect very well with my brain. I can't even do a simple cartwheel or handstand. ._.

I had a very similar experience in grade school when it came to gymnastics, sports, or basically anything athletic. I could not do handstands, cartwheels, or one of the worst ones for me was the "running high jump" in which you had to run and hurl your body over a bar onto a cushioned thing.....I just ran up to it shook my head and said "no" because I knew any attempt I made would not end well one way or another. I was atrocious at team sports, the proverbial kid that got picked last, and even hated field day, because I was usually blamed for the poor performance of any team I was on. I could not ride a bike or skate either, and still cannot, nor do I have any interest in it. Needless to say I dreaded gym class, since it would inevitably mark me out from everyone else and result in taunting and embarrassment. We did not even know that I was an aspie back then, so I was just branded as a misfit by my peers unfortunately.

I also forgot to mention... I used to be on this baseball team. They actually kicked me off the team because I was a horrible player. D: At the time, I don't think my parents knew about my autism. It wasn't something they could really fight for when it came to the discrimination. I did take gymnastics once, but I never made it past beginner's level and had to quit.

I always had a hard time with cart wheels. I could do somersaults and eggrolls, and I always loved the block pit. I could never do the balance beam until was older. I quit when I was eight because it was very tiring. I got to an age where they train you to be a gymnast and when you are little, it's just fun stuff than real gymnastics. The teacher there thought I should be in psychical therapy but my mom refused to have me in it.

When it comes to cartwheels and flips, etc., my head doesn't like being anything other than right-side up.

If it's anything other than upright (while rotating) I don't think my mind adapts fast enough, even when I tried over-and-over again (diving) when I was a kid.

My younger brother, on the other hand, was quite good in diving and competed in high school.

When I was a judoka, the clubs that I attended would do cartwheels as one of their basic warm-up exercises. I couldn't perform one no matter how hard I tried because I lacked the coordination and always ended up spraining my ankle instead. I've always lacked coordination. I wouldn't fare in gymnastics at all. There's a rolling forward breakfall that looks very similar to a running forward roll that took me years to work out, but it was only when I became an orange belt I was able to perform the rolling breakfall.

Judo requires a lot of coordination like gymnastics but not as much.

I did gymnastics for a little while when I was a kid....my mom loved the fact that I could do somersaults, and was always encouraging me to do them using sofa cushions, even when I didn't feel like it (it was scary getting started, and it kind of hurt). Then I was enrolled in a gymnastics class for little kids later on. I remember taking a pair of tiny pink rubber lifting weights with me, even though I never used them there - I loved those weights because they were pink and like the ones my dad had, only much smaller and...well, pink. :D I loved going on the big trampolines at the gymnastics center. I also remember once when I brought my plushie of Chomper from The Land Before Time with me, and left him in my cubby. When it was time to go home, I saw another Chomper on top of the cubbies, and was like, "How'd he get up there?" I reached for him, and my mom said, "No, Coupe, that's HER Chomper" gesturing towards a little girl standing next to me. I looked and saw my Chomper still in his cubby, and I think afterwards that particular girl and I were on somewhat friendly terms, more or less due to the fact that we both liked Land Before Time and had the same plushie. xD That's pretty much all I remember about doing gymnastics as a kid.

I was just thinking about this the other day. Gym class was a nightmare all through school. Was terrible in sports, gymnastics was a joke. And then the year they thought it would be a good idea to teach us square dancing...makes me cringe just thinking about it.

I still can't do a decent forward roll.

I had problems knowing my left from my right. I had allot of problems with my balance. I could stand on my hands for about 10 seconds. I was very limber and could do the splits really well. But when up on my feet my legs I had poor balance. Balance beam was almost impossible. Floor routine's took forever for me to learn. The horse was the easiest for me but I could not stick the landing. I was pretty good at the uneven bars. I was in gymnastics for 3 years and then called it quits,

I was totally inept at gymnastics. I can still picture myself in high school PE class, struggling on the mat, trying to complete a simple ?forward roll? (also known as a summersault).

I also wasn?t very good at team sports (e.g. basketball, football, soccer, baseball). I had issues judging the height, distance and velocity of approaching balls. Also, I had issues with complex body movements (e.g. all the complexities involved in swinging the bat at a moving ball, including remembering to rotate hips, hold the hands a certain way, etc.).

I could never do gymnastics. But I am weirdly good at lots of sports like basketball, netball, football, badminton etc. I'm ridiculously good at catching despite the fact that I can trip over nothing.

I used to be in gymnastics. I never got to a high enough level to do handsprings, but I could easily do cartwheels. I think I could even do some cartwheels on the balance beams with some help.

I did fine as long as I was in contact with earth or water. Anytime airborne, poor.
