I'm not asking if weather patterns are a special interest. I am wondering if they are NOT a special interest, do you tend to pay attention to the weather or not?

I tend to not pay attention to the weather. I only look up the forecast if I am wanting to do something on a particular day and the weather may change those plans. I also pay attention to the forecast if a major storm, like a hurricane or blizzard, is coming and I might lose electricity for an extended time.

Otherwise, I seem to be completely clueless what the weather is supposed to be on a given day. Recently, I have been caught by surprise on a number of occasions by the amount of rain. For me, attention to the weather is limited to, "Wow, it's raining really hard right now", or "It turned out to be a really nice day."

I noticed this morning that the sky was overcast, but that didn't translate into my looking up the forecast to see if it would rain a lot. I didn't even think to myself, "It is overcast; it will probably rain today." My thoughts just stopped at, "It is overcast."

Does this happen to anyone else?

Not so much with the weather specifically, but I do pay much attention to the seasons changing, as in what trees (in my neighbourhood) have even one branch that has started changing colour, or when my tomatoes must have been touched by just a wee bit too cold temperatures at night (one day they were fine, the next day they were nearly all brown, but we haven't had frost yet)

And I do pay much attention to the moon phases! I love watching the moon change from one night to the next. I even pay attention to where it goes down on the horizon in relation to it's changing phases - I'll think "ok last night it was a tiny crescent moon and went down to the right of that pine tree, now it's a slightly thicker crescent and it's going down right behind that pine tree, I bet tomorrow night it goes down to the left of that tree"....

I'm nutty about the moon

To answer your question: I was only looking up the forecast over the summer just to investigate whether I needed to water my tomatoes or not. If the probability of precipitation was 0% for the next 5 days, I'd give them a good soaking! I don't look up forecasts now that the garden season's done.

That sounds like me. I also look out of the window, see it´s overcast, but then walk outside without thinking about the possibility of rain.
Furthermore I have problems with temperature changes. I often think: It was like this yesterday, probably I can wear clothes for that weather today, too. But sometimes the weather changed over night and then I sweat or feel cold.

I only pay attention to weather reports in order to know what to wear, as the weather where I live is changeable and you could have three mild, dry, sunny days, then torrential rain and cold temperatures the next, and be caught out in thin clothes and no umbrella.

It didn't use to matter in the place I formerly lived, because the weather was pretty samey and consistent, and also I drove a car there, so I was protected from whatever the weather was doing.

Now though, I'm a pedestrian, cyclist and public transportation user and will be out in the weather so I have to know what to wear. Other than that, I don't really take an interest, although I do hate long periods of grey and miserable weather as it affects my mood.

I pay attention to the weather pretty much every day. Checking the weather forecast is part of my everyday routine. Because I don't drive a car, I'm directly affected by rain/showers. It's important for me to know before I go out whether I need to carry an umbrella with me and whether I can use the bike to go to work etc. These decisions are made based on the weather forecast.

I realize that many people around me don't know what the weather is going to be like. I think it's understandable because most people here drive a car and can go wherever they like regardless of the weather.

Yes, now that you have mentioned it, if I am heading into the city for school and will be walking from the public transit station, I do pay attention to the weather.

I won't watch weather forecast unless I am planning something but I do pay attention to the weather. I usually know whatever there is going to rain or not, especially in summer. I just "feel rain in the air" with a few hours advance even if there is full sun. I gained the ability because thunderstorms are my special interest so I learned how to predict them and naturally learned to predict regular weather too even though I am not interested in boring sunny days or slight rain.

My ability to predict weather "from the smell of air" just allows me to predict the probability of rain. It's not special interest thing, just an ability. When my special interest mode actually ticks I literally sit with my face in weather reports/detectors or stare at the sky, waiting for the thunderstorm to come and getting angry when it disappears from weather radar("dies") before appearing in my place.

That is really neat that you can do that!

I pay attention, but am an outdoorsy person and it matters in what I chose to do on a daily basis.

Yes I do that a lot. And end up not dressing warm enough or wearing the wrong kind of shoes or not having a jacket with me.

I really have to think about it when the seasons start changing. Here summer seems to just go on forever and I get used to wearing light, thin clothes. Right now it's starting to get cooler but it goes back and forth. I just have to wear layers and take them on or off as needed.

I'm paying attention to the weather because I want it to be overcast like it's supposed to be in the Seattle area where I moved, but instead it's been nonstop blazing sunshine. Other than that, I don't keep track of it.

I pay attention to the weather, partly because I enjoy science in general and weather is one of my science special interests. Partly because I'm from Nebraska and have a wider array of weather experiences than my current neighbors in Louisiana, so it gives me reason to talk about it and keep an eye on it.

Oh no this isn't me at all I experience a lack of caring about other things most ppl care about But climate and weather patterns is a special interest ofmine. I study patterns acrosy continent( N America) even down to its affect on the plant life and air pressure. I am.very much hypersensitive to air pressure and strongly prefermore to less..I love mornig overcast! When i lived in the midwest i loved the overnight rains!! !!

I use to pay attention to the weather when I was younger. After listening to the weather forecaster's inaccurate forecast for 40 yrs I stopped watching. They say it is going to rain and it doesn't. Or there will not be a blizzard then there is one. I will how ever go to there web site and look at the Doppler Radar. There's many days I leave the house dressed to warm or cold.

Look out the window or check the thermometer, that's what I usually do unless it really matters. In Canada there is usually a severe weather warning with the red screen and everything every day from October to April so the forecast is really pointless. So I follow Rick Mercer's advice and I don't pay too much attention.
