Not sure if I have autism or not yet but I still think I'd benefit from something that could squish me. I like the idea of a blanket but my wife thinks it's lazy to stay covered up by a duvet so I don't imagine she'd appreciate it.

There's a boy in the autism unit I volunteer in who has some sort of wrap around item. I asked what it was called and they weren't sure except that it squeezes rather than being weighted. It's not the inflatable one which my internet searches keep popping up with - instead its a piece of material that wraps around his chest and then is Velcro up, plus two separate straps also affixed with Velcro in an X on the back.

This seems like it could work for me and doesn't look like it should be too expensive (although everything marketed towards special needs seems to cost a fortune).

Does anyone know what this is or have any suggestions for less expensive pressure items?

I'm also thinking of getting an exercise ball to sit on so that I can bounce a little when I'm meant to be concentrating on coursework or a television we're watching together. My wife is a teacher and she thinks it will help the kids in her class concentrate and have better posture. She agrees that it would probably help me too. (I have a tendency to flop on my chair, sitting in a way that when I spin/turn the chair it keeps (unintentionally) catching on her and hurting her and I always realise too late.) Has anyone had any success with something like this?

You could get some kind of compression garment. Under Armor is supposed to be good. I always wear shapewear for compression. As for staying covered by a duvet being "lazy," I think that's very insensitive of your wife to say that.

The exercise ball should definitely help. I bounce on one for a concentration boost, and also if I'm having an episode of "brain fog" and want to de-zombify without caffeine.

Spanks are probably good too. They are made for women but men wear them also. But they are mostly for waist and thighs so you may need something else for your chest and arms. But a sports compression shirt would be good. Check out Sierra Trading Post or AltrecOulet.com or BackCountry.com . I buy most of my ski clothes at those places because they are all outlets and have great discounts. Altrec has a rest of your life return policy as well. And LLBean does too. But you can find compression clothes for skiing and cold weather running at those places. I don't know if compression clothes will give you enough compression though so you might need more. I would order one and try it and you can always return it if it does not work for you.
