Not sure whether i have aspergers or if im just a neurotypic
Hey guys. So recently i've been thinking about what's wrong with me because of me being different from other people. I thought that i was a psycho or something for a while because of me not being able to see how other people felt or not being able to socialize. But then i came across aspergers and i was like "hey that might actually be me". It's very hard for me to look people in the eyes especially when they have tears or showing just a bit of emotion, it feels like my eyes are burning. I am also very bad at making friends, i only have 5 people that i can call my friends, and where i live im known as the guy who never goes outside. I am organized and i think im a bit obsessed with it, as a kid when i went to the mall with my mom i would always organize the merchandise in the trolley (is it the right word?) and i even do it today sometimes when i can't resist. I always prefered books over playing with other kids and even today i still prefer reading over being with other people. Parties are usually the last things i want to do, but i only end up going because my family forces me to (this makes me really pissed because i never planned to go) and i also frequently have to take breaks so i get some fresh air, as it feels like it's too much for me. Quite often i end swinging back and forth with my body and i dont notice it before someone points it out, also when i talk to my friends make some movements with my hands that my friends call weird and ask me why i make them when i dont even notice them myself. I suck at conversations and i can never keep one going for example when someone asks "did you like the movie" i simply answer "yes" and cant continue it from there. My teachers, parents and friends see me as being very smart, i score high when it comes to writing but verbally my scores are very low. I notice small details that others dont. I'm more sensitive to sound and they also say that i have an incredible memory. Problem is that i just got my report card and my parents are incredibly mad at me for having low grades verbally but high grades in writing, they ask me why they're so low, i tell them that im trying my best but i just can't do it and that's where they get really mad. The reason why they care so much about it is because this is the year that eventually decides my future. Should i get a diagnosis?
Thank you for taking your time reading this. And also sorry for the mistakes english isnt my mother tongue ![]()
If you haven´t been studying this closely to give a description like this, I would say, that there is a high probability, that you do have AS, - but we are not experts in here, so if you really want to know, you should see a psychiatrist, who has specialized in autism.
Online tests won´t do it. Ask your doc. for a referral.
If it is an important year, a diagnosis may help you, because you can then ask for accomodations at exams and so. Good luck.

The OP asked, "Should I get a diagnosis?" not, "Do I have autism?" ergo, the above two responses are irrelevant.
OP, I agree with Jensen; from your description, it sounds like you do have several ASD traits that may be worth looking into. Whether or not to get a diagnosis depends on several factors: how much it costs where you live (e.g, in the UK it's free under the NHS if you can get a referral, but in the US it's usually about $2,000, but you can self-refer), what kinds of help and/or support you currently or may potentially need in the future (such as assistance with your verbal-based schoolwork, or getting/holding onto a job later in life), and how important it is to you personally to know for sure one way or the other. Considering these factors will help you decide whether or not to persue a diagnosis.
I personally decided to get diagnosed after managing to find a place that would do it for reduced cost ($500) primarily because it was driving me crazy not knowing whether I was or I wasn't. The diagnosis later had unforseen benefits in helping me get resources I needed for classes, and in helping me at work when I had to back up my claim for why it would be a bad idea to move me out of the position I'm currently in, into one I wouldn't have been able to handle from a social or sensory standpoint. Good luck, let us know what you decide!
