(slams book on ground)

Dammit! Now how am I gonna get rid of this big, hunky piece of metal out of my house now?

I just signed up here for the THAT VERY REASON! I'm tired of being banned from message boards for trying to get rid of my junk and I thought that WP would be different...but NOOOO!

How did I miss that one? Hilarious, Foreign Object!

Not 10 things but figured I'd try and come up with something.

Those just apply to life.

They might lock the thread if you do it- they didnt used to- but recently theyve started to crack down on that.

I dunno. It can be annoying, and confusing. You see an ancient thread and just HAVE to respond to it. Then more folks join the thread, but dont realize its an ancient thread. And they start giving advice to the OP who may have stopped posting years ago, and might be dead for all anyone knows.

never succeed in careers
can't feel empathy
are all the same
are all nerds
have a mental illness
are lesser human beings than non-speccies
need to be cured
never love
can't be happily married
are loners waiting to shoot people

Strange :o I'd have thought it would have done more good than harm. I wonder why they don't just archive or lock the threads when they get to a certain age.

^ I agree that it doesn't do harm. If members who have left get a response, it might still help others here. The topic could still be valid, and some people are more comfortable posting in an already exisitng thread than starting a new one

- Signing up over and over because you were banned for being a troll and abusive to other users
- Be judgmental of others (specifically referring to transphobia here), especially in the PPR forum

2 things that people shouldn't do.

Asking members about their contradictions and their inconsistencies.

Flooding a member's PM box after they have upset you about something

Posting a thread questioning self diagnoses

Posting about your doubts about lot of members being on the spectrum

What is your list of the top 10 things that you shouldn't do on wp?

[opinion=mine]

10) You shouldn't ask if you are an Aspie.

9) You shouldn't ask if your parent, sibling, offspring, friend, coworker, or pet is an Aspie.

8) You shouldn't ask if a famous person, whether dead or alive, was or is an Aspie.

7) You shouldn't start threads asking others for their opinions of you.

6) You shouldn't post an "irrefutable" claim that is based solely on your belief in that claim.

5) You shouldn't ask why someone said or did something, unless your question is directed at the person who said or did it.

4) You shouldn't post anything without making a thorough examination of that post for correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

3) You shouldn't diagnose anyone else unless you have earned the appropriate medical degree.

2) You shouldn't ignore or the Rules of Posting on this website.

1) You shouldn't disrespect the moderators or Alex, even when disagreeing with their opinions.

Don't post in anger. If someone upsets you, try to remember to close the page, calm down in peace and go back later instead. It's not always an easy thing to do, but it's worth doing your best to do so.

Don't quote 17 nested posts in order to add a one line response...

YES.

I have made threads in the past and received one line responses which essentially ignored everything but the thread title. Granted that in some of those times I posted in excess, but I'd rather that somebody ignore posting in my thread if they weren't going to at least consider some of what had been written, especially if what they were posting was an attack on myself as a result of their first impression of what my thread was about.

"Quote Trees" are my pet peeve.

I believe people could do what they want--use WP for their own purposes, provided they don't offend, hurt, or abuse another user. Personal attacks should be moderated to the fullest extent of the "law" of WP.

It's natural to speculate whether one is an Aspie--it's part of exploring one's self. I don't see the harm in it, despite the fact that it could irritate many.

It would be correct for someone to state: "you seem to have some Aspie characteristics--but I haven't seen you. I don't know you personally. Therefore, I cannot conclusively state whether you are Aspie or not." To diagnose a person in this situation would be beyond ridiculous.

It's up to the individual person to determine if he/she is an Aspie.

What's important to note, though, is that being Aspie should not be used as an "excuse" for anything. Success is quite attainable despite (or perhaps even because of) one's Aspieness.

I thought about this quite a bit, and came up with this:

Asperger's/Autism is frequently a "condition," a "difference," rather than a "disease." Asperger's/Autism is not something you "have," like measles.

One might "suffer" because one is Autistic/Aspergian. One does not "suffer" from Autism/Asperger's.
