I've been forced to go to special behavioral "schools" all my life. The one I'm at currently is a lot less violent than most of the ones I've been to, but the "security" gives me anxiety attacks that I have to self-medicate to cope with. Me last school had two police officers wearing black tactical crap around all day. This place doesn't have that. Instead, about five of them plus a dog handler just burst in on random days, herd us all into the commons like cattle and then search each and every one of us extremely thoroughly (which takes more than half of the day). Still, the principal's reasonable and (while there is a fair bit of violence on campus) I haven't had a single piece of furniture thrown at me all school year :)

Jeni: Maybe you should ask the people at Escapades about how you could advocate to get your Regent's diploma. I'm sure somebody will listen.

They don't know I know I have autism and I don't know if I want to open up that can of worms

Plus I'm kind of in a lower functioning group and I don't think the kids there do regents nut I could be wrong.

However I could mention it in a subtle way which I kind of did once.

You could show that you're not low-functioning--which you are not.

If you could show some director or other that you've passed some Regents, I'm sure they'll change their minds about how "low-functioning" you are.

I think you want to progress--but that maybe you're scared of progressing for some reason. This is not a criticism (please let me emphasize that). Lots of people are scared of trying new things. For autistic people, it's doubly-triply hard.

But I think you really want to progress. And I'm proud of you for that. I understand it won't happen right away. But I believe you have to take at least "baby steps."

Umm I've all ways identified as lower functioning although I call it high low functioning because I'm higher on the low functioning end.

I've been diagnosed with a classic autism (autistic disorder by the hospital ) and asd level 2 by my psychologist.

But on the regnts my functionaing doesn't matter. At least in the areas I am low functioning i considered myself a twice exceptional savant or at least I used to

yes I can communicate well at least they used to be able to communicate even tough I didn't talk much exept for when I was really little but I can't take care of myself at all and I need assistant all the time also I need a lot of attention but I can going to more detail later or you can read my order threads

By the way how long how long have you been reading my posts?

I got on WP in February of 2014. I've been on pretty regularly since late March.

I really haven't read many of your posts.

The truth is: I don't want you to fall into the cracks if you don't have to. That's my motivation.

I think you could be a successful advocate for other autistic people.

Have you read much about Temple Grandin?

Hi Jeni,

I apologize if you feel I am overwhelming you with advice which you don't feel you could take.

I'm not a "hard sell" kind of guy; I hate it when others give me the "hard sell."

Perhaps, because I'm from New York City, I come off as a little blunt. You know how us New Yorkers are! LOL

My instincts tell me, though, that you have potential, and that you could succeed by obtaining either a Regent's Diploma or a GED (if you don't get a Regent's Diploma). You are doing "The Crucible" now, which is a pretty advanced play. You wouldn't be doing "The Crucible" if they didn't think you were at least somewhat intelligent.

When you do get either the Regent's or GED, you could start off at Community College. You could ask the Admissions Counselor about Accommodations. Then the Admissions Counselor will refer you to a Disabilities Counselor.

PS: You should see or read the play known as "Lost in Yonkers." I think you would enjoy it.

You should have the results of all the psychological tests which you took in high school. That's required to get Accommodations. You have to have actual proof of any and all diagnoses.

I always been a savant in English :)

It's okay I like your advice it's just that I don't know if I can take it I want to take it it was my dream to show what low functioning people can do.

The problem is that once to one setting is different than a 30 - 40 class kids and and online schooling would be too independent.

I've tried being in regular programming but left in October because it was too hard and I cannot handle it and my voices were bothering me. They brother me every day but hopefully they'll go away eventually.

Do any collages take IeP diplomas?

I wish there was a special college for people like me.

I'll have to check out wcc and ask them about admission myself just to make sure there's no special program.

It's a local project, so my dad doesn't want me saying the name of it the same as he doesn't want me saying the name of my school, so some bad person reading can't pinpoint me.

It was just at a local park with a lake and ran throughout the summer. We did swimming in the lake (which was roped off so we were in shallow water) arts and crafts, nature stuff, games, group activities. Pretty much like the fun parts of school. I'll PM you the link.
