Hey, got a few problems here that I need help with. My website is currently hosted with AffordableHOST which was good until they got screwed by a joe jobber

http://www.technicalsupportnow.com/joejob.html

And after that, they got bought out by DotCanada which is leading to difficulty getting in contact with technical support due to technical support options being down, and DotCanada I found out is 404 central from the www webhosting group. This means that I am considering changing hosts, yet I don't know where to go to. What I have is a Cpanel2 Account (in which they had Cpanel3, Cpanel4, and I forget if there was a Cpanel5) that I was paying $10.95 for. It has a bunch of good things such as IP Deny, Mail Filters, 200 Mail Accounts, Webmail Access, 200 MBs Webspace, 15 GBs transfer, Subdomains, Addon Domains, PHP, MySQL, Spam Assassin, and on it I have phpBB forums in which I need to get a back up of the MySQL database of or my phpBB would end up starting over from scratch. I'm not sure where WrongPlanet is hosted, but I may need to get hosted there depending on how good they really are.

It would be good if someone knows how to retrieve a backup of the MySQL database as I'm not sure exactly what to do. Besides that, I don't know where to get a reliable host for what I need.

Anyway, as for helping WrongPlanet, I'm not sure what I can do to help. But I am good at a number of things. I know HTML and took some advanced freelance HTML courses from the collage and still have those notes if I needed to do anything with form processing. But in either case, I can make a great webpage and can do frames as well. Unfortunately, I don't know much about PHP. I also have figured out how to set up and work on PJIRC (the client WrongPlanet uses for the chatroom), and know how to set up and manage an Unreal IRC Server (I have my own irc network and can provide chatrooms there for WrongPlanet). I have experience in phpBB and setting one up. So the best help I can think of is providing support for most of the basics here and probably setting up stuff (even though I may be out of a website if I can't get hosted elsewhere).

Erik

Hi ErikMouse,

I offer realiable cpanel web hosting. You can see more info at my business site: http://beedragon.com Just click on 'web hosting'.

Cpanel has a backup feature (if it's enabled by your host) that will backup your databases in one click. That's the easiest way to do it, but you may want to also (or instead) use phpMyAdmin.

PhpMyAdmin takes a few more steps and isn't really obvious how it works for backing stuff up, but you have more control over what you back up and how you save it. To use it, go to the mySQL section in cpanel, scroll to bottom, click on phpMyAdmin, click on the name of your database and then on 'export'. Select all tables in the db. Then export to a file. Check the box about using backticks if it's not already checked. Also make sure both data and structure are checked. That should be the default. Usually the defaults are set up right for most situations. I hope that helps.

Hi, I just checked out your business site and I believe that your web hosting "Premium" package will work nicely for me as it has more webspace than I'm getting with my current webhost, plus unlimited pop3 account, and is a dollar less than what I am currently paying with my current webhost.

Also, I do have a few questions regarding this. Does this also come with the option to allow subdomains as I use subdomains, and parked and addon domains as I have more than one domain? If it does, then you just got me for a new customer.

Erik

Hi Erik,

You can have subdomains, parked, and addon domains. Usually 3 of each are included, but I can add more if you need them. Thanks for the business. Do you need help with transferring your domain name(s)? If you prefer, you can email me at infoATbeedragonDOTcom to discuss this further :D
