So I'm planning on doing a little zine-style comic about autism--specifically, dispelling myths and providing useful info. The only issue is, I'm not quite sure what all I should include!

What are some subjects you would like me to cover? I already plan on covering special interests, stimming, social difficulties, and stuff like that, but I'd love to have more subject matter to work with. Thanks in advance!

(Also, yes, I will be posting the comic here when it's done. :))

include that although it is a gift, it is also a disability, no matter what people say. asd's do cause impairments in skills that are needed for say a literature class in school because of the way we analyze and comprehend. when you do say that it's a disability, include that not everybody with autism has mental retardation. i've heard people in my school talk about autism like they think it means we're all mentally ret*d.

One of the most common and harmful myths is that people with autism do not care about anyone except themselves. Please dispel that myth and make clear that people with autism can be just as caring as anyone else We just are not very good at interpreting other people and understanding how other people think and feel sometimes.

Please explain that people with autism react much stronger than other people to stimuli around them and this sometimes causes us to retreat into or own worlds.

Thank you all so much for your responses! I'm asking some other autistic friends for input as well...hopefully I'll be able to cover as much as possible. c:

Oh my gosh, it makes me so angry when people spew crap like that! I personally think I'm one of the most caring and empathetic people I know--when I'm told fairly explicitly what's going on, anyway. Seriously, the myth that autistics can't feel empathy makes my blood boil, and is absolutely something I've planned on covering from the get-go.
