Was given this diagnosis when I was 3, and have no idea what it is and can't find it online. Anyone else on the spectrum get this diagnosis and know more about it?

Are you sure you don't mean Oppositional Defiant Disorder? I've heard of it. I call BS on it being a legitimate disorder. It seems silly, at least to me.; 3 year olds will be 3 year olds, not listen, and have tantrums (as distinct from meltdowns.) I was never diagnosed with it myself.

I also think it's BS, but was curious. I've came across oppositional defiant on google but I think it was def "confrontational". Googling with quote marks revealed some vague references to it in relation to adhd (which I know I do have). The annoying thing is that it does sound like BS, and knowing I do have adhd and high-functioning autism, I hate the idea of a BS diagnosis making people question my legitimate ones... At the same time, for a long time I argued against being diagnosed with tourettes, but in retrospect I don't think all of my tics can be put down to Autism.

Symptomatising people's legitimate defiance to unfairness in order to silence them...seems like a good racket to me.

You were diagnosed with that when you were only 3?!

Agreed.

I was "incorrigible". Still am. When any kind of "authority" type stuff comes up - my first thought is "bite me". And I'm 56. And it is only recently that I figured out what that's about.

When you're "different", it is as if people assume that whatever you're doing, it can't POSSIBLY be "important", so its OK to demand your attention or otherwise interrupt you. As if those of us who are "different" were put here to serve "normal" people. I can't even imagine a "normal" person putting up with that. And they wonder why their defensiveness and fragile feelings aren't at the top of my list of priorities?

I believe Oppositional Defiance Disorder is just a fancy term meaning, a teacher doesn't feel like teaching a student so they'll label them to make them someone else's problem. Really it should be called Lazy Teacher Disorder.
