For example, in my high school program my closest friend was a girl who had Down Syndrome, and she had cognitive challenges I didn't have, but she was nice, so we were friends. I had other friends like that too. Sometimes when I see the threads here about whether or not AS/ASD/HFA folks distinguish themselves from other autistics I wonder if there is a sense of solidarity and community among differently abled people for anyone here, especially when you were a kid and couldn't help all being grouped together.
