I just wanted to talk about the positive sides of having AS...This is not to say that it is not difficult to have it...

For me, through experiencing AS, I became more able to sympathize and be tolerant with people with neurological conditions. There was a person that I met the other day and he kept moving his head from side to side. Because I became aware of neurological conditions through my AS, I thought this person might have a neuromuscular condition...and was able to accept him. I didn't feel in the least uncomfortable or awkward...and I thought it was nice to be able to respond that way... :)

it means I am creative and think outside of the box, because those things people just accept becasue of convention, I don't take for granted. Being able to look at the world as an "alien" can be an advantage as you are not so accustomed to convention that you think its God. Being different makes me stand out in a good way because I bring up perspectives people would not otherwise think of.

and yes, it makes me more sympathetic to people with neurological conditions and to people that have been picked on. It can be an encouragement for those kids especially when you are in a leadership position.

Well, I may not be as good at puzzles as I once was. I stopped doing them for some reason, and only recently started again. But I DO have a great ability to learn certain things, etc... I put some people with decades of formal training to shame. Ironically, my biggest problem now is that I am underutilized, even though I am getting paid just as much(Even more than when I was overworked), and getting bored. NOW, if only I could follow my own advice and get off the forums, I would do pretty well. 8-( BTW I originally had an unbelievable work ethic.

I am not sure if this is the AS or not, but I am a natural philosopher...that is the way my mind works...and I am always seeking knowledge and understanding of everything. It is not enough for me to simply see something, I need to know other things about it. Also, my intelligence, I suppose, but I think I would have that with or without AS and I find it a curse at times. My imagination... because I find the real world so difficult to cope with, I made up for it by totally escaping into fantasy worlds. Mind you, who is to say that the world we live in is real anyway? Also, my difference from others seems to attract more interesting people in life.

Other than that...for me, the negatives far outweigh the positives.

A keen eye for detail, a knack for spotting things that are out of place or that just don't add up, a mind like a steep trap for trivia, a greater-than-average tolerance for mundane or repetitive tasks...

Last week there was some problem with a customer's bill, something just didn't add up but no one could figure out what was wrong. So they had me look at it, and I spotted the incongruity, the cause of the problem.

They like that about me at the gas company...

That's so cool! :) I tend to be a little clumsy...I would make mistakes like leaving out all the one dollar bills when counting the total...

When something interests me I follow it to wherever it leads. That's the story of my life and something that I wouldn't change.

Well, I have interedts that I like.

Wait! That is akin to stating that I am glad that I don't like parsnips because if I did I would have to eat them.

On the other hand, my spatial and conceptual abilities allow me to be an architect.

Perfection in my work,

a total distain for housecleaning,

no social or emotional dependancies,

Spending my life living it,

people have said that for what I know I must have lived three lifetimes.

I would think that about right, most people give two thirds of their life to chit chat and house cleaning.

I started slowly, but growth has continued to speed up over time, now I am a super fast learner.

In another ten years my knowledge will double.

I would not be me without it.

Do you learn the topics you are most drawn to or do you set yourself things to educate yourself about then get on and do it?

Also, did you ever find you had trouble focussing on learning by reading books?... I am assuming you learn that way...
