For Christmas, I got a gift card to an independent bookstore (booksellers), and I'm looking for recommendations on books about autism/AS. Any suggestions?

this has probably been brought up billions of times but i read Look Me in the Eye three years ago and i loved it. anyone else read it?

tells about growing up in the 60s before there was an "Aspergers" diagnosis.
really, that guy's career jumped all over the place.

All of John Elder Robison's books are great - Look Me In the Eye, Be Different, or Raising Cubby.

Parallel Play by Washington Post Reporter Tim Page about growing up undiagnosed is pretty good, too, though John's books are more helpful overall, I think.

The Reason I Jump, by a 13 y/o Japanese teen is a quick read and a moving description of what it feels like to him to be an autistic person.

Life Animated, by Ron Suskind, a DC political reporter, is an interesting perspective from a parent.

Hope this helps ... Please tell the community what book you end up getting if you like.

My favorites are:

- The Complete Guide to Asperger’s Syndrome (Tony Atwood)
- Thinking in Pictures (Temple Grandin)
- Living Well on the Spectrum (Valerie Gaus)
- A Field Guide to Earthlings (Ian Ford)
- The Autistic Brain (Temple Grandin)

You may want to read reviews on Amazon, before buying.

Try this link. It has books for autistic women and girls, including aspiegirl, the girl who spoke in pictures, aspie guide how to be safe with men, 22 things a woman with asperger wants her partner to know, parenting autistic girls and more. http://autisticeyes.com/?page_id=512

I've always considered that book great; I'll see what they have. I doubt that and/or either of the titles mentioned are available in store, but they're great suggestions nonetheless.
