I just started this because I was curious about the way other autistics think. I've heard that many of you think In numbers, pictures, or sounds. I haven't found a name for the way I think. I think in visual words. Like, when someone's talking, I see the words that they are saying right in front of them. Even when I'm thinking, I see the words. Doesnanybody else have a "weird" way of thinking too? :D

I think mostly in pictures, and what I can only describe as thinking in memories or mental movies. When I'm thinking about doing something, it's like a video of the activity plays in my mind. I don't always have an inner monologue saying my thoughts. Also when I think of an object, I see it in my head instead of thinking about the object in words.

If I think about going outside to my car, I don't think the words "I have to go to my car", I visualize my car and have a mental movie of walking out of the house to my car.

Don't know if that's "normal" or not.... :?

I'm not primarily a visual thinker--though, at times, when I'm rehashing situations, I might recall visual input.

For things like nouns, verbs and adjectives, I usually think of the world in pictures, movies, animations, 3D models, ect. When it comes to things like abstract nouns that are also homonyms (heir and air), I have to spell out the "heir" grammatically in my mind to understand it, otherwise I think of a white mist. I usually have a mental map location of where I am at all times, which way is north, what part of a city, state I'm in. When I think of numbers it's like they appear right in front of me, except it's in my mind.

I think in words, sometimes narratively, and I think in song lyrics and musical phrases.

I'm probably the opposite of visual. I think in words unless I need to conjure up an image for reference, or if I'm daydreaming etc. obviously.

I think visually and in narratives. I'm always thinking in pictures and I like to make up Saturday Night Live skits in my mind about things that happen to me during my waking hours.

I pretty much think that way. Probably one reason why I have a knack for this type of communication.

I most often think in binary logic gates, but I picked visual & narrative.

Whatever it is, I visualize it as a logic gate and project the logic flow in both directions, past & future in order to extrapolate possibilities.

I trained myself to think logically in a sorta of logic map. However, I still have a strong visual imagination.

If I'm recalling an event, I get a picture/pictures in my mind of that event as if someone's taken a snapshot of the situation and then suddenly, it all comes racing back to me, including all of the irrelevant, useless details (which I seem to have to relay as well). EVERYTHING!! !

Some narrative, but mostly pictures, musical lyrics or movie fragments. I'll remember back a book as a small blurry film, without having visualized it at the time. Often situations or words will remind me of songs or movies, and then I'll have songs or movie quotes in my head.

I'm a strong visual-spatial thinker. Which is great in my engineering work but not so good for my verbal communication. I have to really work most of the time to have the thoughts that come out of my mouth to be clear, focused, concise and on topic.

Even my postings here on WP can be a bit off-kilter. :D
