Just a poll that's asking for your form of autism or other disorder and whether you

A) had/have a special interest
B) both had/have a special interest and a preoccupation with parts of objects or
C) had/have a preoccupation with parts of objects

I want to see how many people with AS do not have a special interest and how many with other ASDs have a special interest. Also how many people with AS have the preoccupation with parts of objects and how many people with other ASDs do not have that.

Aspergers dx, special interest, and object parts, though one generally wouldn't know about the latter one (it doesn't show.).

Classic autism,diagnosed....am obsessed with cats [assuming is the same thing as special interest as it gets used as the same, here] but am not familiar with the knowledge/info side of them, they were the only thing am interacted with as a young child so it makes sense to go crazy as soon as they come into vision.

sorry Sora, not sure on what preoccupation with parts of objects means?
have just voted on the one thing/special interest [hoping it is the same thing].

I have AS and a special interest. As you can probably guess, the special interest is "SpongeBob SquarePants".

Asperger's and special interests. When I was younger it was a certain female I liked for a number of years, then it was architecture, then running, then photography, and now AS/ASDs and I will also include World of Warcraft even though there are plenty of "normal" people who are obsessed with that game as well.

AS, special interests, preoccupation etc etc
This trait isn't as prominent as it used to be, but it is definitly still there.
My special interests are mermaids and dreams.
about the parts of objects, I always take notice of car number plates, and I can see a car's plate and say "I recognise that car". And I fiddle with parts of things alot.

Ditto - Although I include board and role-playing games among my interests/obsessions.

It was in fact, one of the reasons I went back to school to finish my degree (after dropping out of college 12 years ago.)

AS, special interest (currently photography).

No preoccupation with parts of objects, in fact, I seem to dislike that sort of thing!

For instance, as a photographer, I like landscapes. What I do not like but apparently many people do are macro (close-up) shots of flowers ... that are close-ups of just parts of flowers, sometimes featuring a bee or other insect on the part of a flower.

I also dislike avatars that show, for example, one eye. Please, show me a whole face!

Same here, on the car number plates. I ALWAYS notice them and this has always been a thing of mine. I didn't really think about it as a "part of an object" fascination as much as I did just a numbers fascination. I know my number plate and my wife's by heart, so if I am driving down the road and I see a car just like hers, I can tell right away if it's her car without seeing her in it.

i dont have any special interests at all, just obsessions with anything sensory related, i marked down autism and preoccupation with a certian object, cuz wherever i go i bring my keyboard, my rubber phone, to rub all day long wherever i am doesnt matter, im obsessed with rubbing different parts, and only find interests other then that in like rubber bands, strings, etc.

I think the "preoccupation with parts of objects" applies mostly to young children and/or infants.
