So tonight, when my hubby asked me to make him a cup of tea - I asked him what cup he wanted and he said "I'll have the big gold one" -- well looking at our array of cups, I grabbed the big coffee-cream-coloured mug... even though it clearly wasn't gold. I told myself that it could be considered gold.... even though there were other mugs that are gold...

This isn't the only instance where this has happened, sometimes people talk about things as well, and I get an idea of what they are talking about, but then i realize that it's completely wrong...

I also jump the gun on a lot of things - make assumptions

Does anyone else do this?

Yes. I do it a lot. I have a hard time with reading intent in a conversation. The coffee cup thing is a common thing even to NTs. Gold is a very subjective color anyways. It can be anything from a light yellow to the actual metal. I don't use the color gold unless I mean the metallic color. If it's yellow or a shade there of, I call it by the shade or yellow. I do not own things that are considered "gold" for that very reason. Plus I am not a fan of anything yellow anyways.

All the time. I can't really think of any one time it happened but on a regular basis someone might ask for one thing and I'll bring them what I thought was right but turns out it wasn't. I get some anxiety about it actually, to the point that I'll just ask for more details or just make them get it themselves.

I think this is an autistic trait. I'm NT and I haven't had a problem with gold mugs. Probably AS attention to detail or something.

Well it makes me feel a little better knowing that I'm not the only one doing this ... lol....
I also bring people the wrong thing sometimes, mostly at home .... thank goodness. I've noticed that my oldest daughter does this too.
I wouldn't say it's attention to details ... not quite anyway.. it's more like thinking to myself "well that could be considered gold I guess" and not really looking at the other gold cups... so maybe it is?
I'm horrible when it comes to remembering things when at a grocery store, even with a list - if Im not crossing things off the list, I'll forget at least one thing, if not more... oi vey.

Thank goodness we live right across the road from a convenient store!

I've never seen a gold mug, but I would like to have one made of pure gold.
Due to detail focus, I would make sure to check its purity, what percent gold eggsacly.

For me it's more a case of misunderstanding things. I'll think I know what people have asked me to do but get it wrong because I misunderstood somehow.

My wife has learned to be a lot more precise as a result- sometimes I repeat things back to her just to make sure I got it right.

:D

I have a lot of trouble seeing things the way other people do.

Me too, unfortunately it has caused a lot of confusion and problems in my life.
