I'm glad there are multiple threads about the outrageous goings on in behind the gates at the Rotenberg *School*. Children are being shocked like cattle with electric prods, hand and feet bound and deprived of normal human love, care, compassion and nuturing - all the ingredients for turning whatever is ailing them around. Tortore will not CURE those children. Love, boundaries and guidance WILL.

Put an end to the torture and abuse. Get involved. Sign petitions, rally. make noise and don;t let this cause be forgotten - till the last child is freed.

"Just how painful those shocks are has been an area of particular debate. The highest shock given by Rotenberg is three times the lowest amount.

The NYT expounds both sides of the problem, as usual.
Families may really be desperate for tantrums and violence of their children severely autistic. But the "tecniques" used in the "school" are not acceptable. Moreover a good percentage of the children there are Asperger, as they explain in the official site. The language of the official site is rather sinister.

State Senator Brian A. Joyce, whose district includes the Rotenberg Center, has introduced two new bills that—while not proposing an outright ban on aversives (aversive is the pseudo-scientific jargon word to indicate punishing action including shocks and withdrawal of food) —would regulate their use much more strictly. "The harsh reality is we're doing this to innocent children in Canton, Massachusetts," he says. "If this treatments were used on terrorist prisoners in Guantanamo Bay, there would be worldwide outrage." The founder and director of the Rotenberg Center is some Dr. Israel, a disciple of the late Skinner’s strict behaviorist school of psychology. According to Skinner’s doctrine, now totally discredited there no way to read somebody’s mind, but you can change behavior through rewards and punishment (conditioning).

this school could possibly be causing widespread neurological system damage with what voltages they are using...

i say all the kids must go to a neurologist, if the family does not have the money one will be provided at the schools expense during the investigation..

if any child is found to have evidently become psychotic or in any way changed for the negative by this school, it will be shut down immediately.
