At work I was discussing escape rooms with a coworker (NT afaik) because another coworker is going to one this week and has floated the idea by our boss of doing that as our staff party instead of some other ideas.

If you're not familiar with the concept (I've never been to one, but I get it.) there are businesses setup where people go and get locked in a room and the entire point is to figure out how to escape from the room. They have multiple rooms that vary in the degree of difficulty to escape from.

Anyways, apparently (at some local business) they're setup for teams of 6 to work together to escape from. We were discussing how different people might strategize picking their team for various reasons and I told him he knows he wants my autistic engineering brain on his team.. and he said he was just thinking that, but that if I were on a different team than him he'd have to say "uh, can he be on a team of 5? Because he has this really weird reverse disability thing.." I thought it was funny & quite the compliment, so had to share it here for those who might enjoy reading it. 8)

Interesting compliment.

You've never get me to sign up to participate in an "escape room" thing however.

lol it's the "really weird reverse disability" compliment that I thought was cool.

But yeah, the escape room thing sounds cool, too. And it's just an idea that's been proposed.. it hasn't been decided on yet.

The initial idea for a staff party was that we'd rent a bus, drink, head over to a local ice rink and continue drinking while attempting to curl. I thought that sounded kinda neat, too, because curling is Not a very popular sport here on the West coast at all so I've never actually seen it live or tried it.

Another business was having their staff party at our place and said they started their morning at a bar, then went to some foam archery place where you gear up in paintball type PPE and then shoot each other with foam tipped arrows - like a giant adult nerf game arena. I thought that sounded pretty cool, too.

But still, I was talking about the compliment.. :P

If I could use a bulldozer, I'd be okay with it.

Oh yeah, that's what I was referring to as well. I can see how my wording could get that mixed up. The compliment was pretty much the perfect thing to say to an Autistic. Inclusive, playing on your strengths, etc.. Sounds like a pretty great boss.

Curling is a great social game. The best part is not worrying about your beer getting warm... you can always put it on ice!
I used to be in a league when I lived in Oklahoma (weird location for curling, I know). That would be a great team building experience, too.
