My husband loves this guy. Keeps using his work to argue (somewhat convincingly) that, though I obviously HAVE autism, autism isn't my problem and depression is.

I've been, to say the least, skeptical.

I ran across this today.

I might have to listen to this guy.

It certainly has the ring of truth. Yes, Bilbo, it rings true...

Thoughts???

If it floats your boat, go for it.

If your boat sinks, then you know the guy's a fraud.

Seriously: I hope the guy's writings give you some kind of clarity. I don't usually go for any particular person or philosophy. I don't know--I have an innate fear that some of these "wise ones" will become cult leaders.

I don't believe in "wise ones." No such thing.

Hence the Gandalf joke, right?

I've been reading this guy for a while. A lot of what he says jibes with my own thoughts-- the ones I have when I'm not sad, angry, and full of hate.

I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Probably, though, I just want an excuse to stop clinging to abject self-hatred as the most prudent course of action.

After all, this guy is another socially inept window-licker. What's he gonna do-- validate my ASD self?? God spare us.

I would have somebody read somebody who goes against the grain of "abject self-hatred" than have that person remain in the vicious cycle of self-hatred.

I've seen the name "Gandolf"--but I've not actually familiar with him, or his work.

I just have an innate distrust of people who write "self-help" books. Frequently, they're based on generalizations, rather than on the individual person.
