Online therapy for adults with autism
I hope this hasn't been posted elsewhere. I'm interested in finding a therapist with experience counseling adult women with ASD who is willing to chat via the internet. I realize that most professionals will not use chat, as they feel that facial expression and tone of voice are necessary for useful therapy. However, I've been told that my facial expressions and tone of voice are misleading, and I'm very anxious when trying to read other people while staying conscious of my own body language. It's very distracting and uncomfortable.
I received a diagnosis about a year ago, shortly before my therapist retired. I've read several books and participated in forums/chat rooms. Now I think I would benefit from speaking with a professional. I've noticed that the female and adult subsets of Asperger traits seem much more often misunderstood than childhood ASD, so I would like to find someone with experience specifically with this group.
Does anyone have any advice? (Please don't respond simply to tell me to talk to someone in person. There is no one in my area, and I've already pursued this option.)
Thanks.
