I got a friend who wants to have aspergers just because looking at the pros of the syndrome and wants to be like Sherlock (which some say he has one :/ )

Do you have a friend like that? what's the reason?

To this friend of yours I'd say explain that not all with AS have any pros so be careful what they wish for. I would class myself in that category. Although I'm not the most extreme case, I have no real benefits.

Nope and it would be kinda weird if someone wanted to have Aspergers Syndrome. Just saying.

A lot of people online, a couple years ago, thought they had Asperger's Syndrome because of the positives that come with it.

Honestly, I don't know why someone who isn't on the spectrum would want to be. I mean, it does have some positive traits, but I imagine life would become a living hell for an NT who woke up one day and somehow "became" autistic. It would just be too much of a shock for them, having such an intense, radically different view of the world.

For mr_bigmouth_502: I know right? there are not only pros having AS here... You know what they say, you'll never know how being autistic like if you don't have one! People thinks it's nice when you saw a car stopping beside you and you think it's going to do something to you, Someone random giving chocolates to you and thinking it's poison, wow. It's really not relaxing.

For Orangez: Don't forget the negative!

For CC_Blossom: It's like spoiling your eyes to get glasses and look "fab".

For Welsh_wolf2015 : yep! be careful what you wish for! :)

They always want the good traits, everyone and their mother would love the ability to focus intensely on one thing.. they'd master whatever field of work they're in and life would be great.

But they never seem to want the crippling social anxiety and depression that comes along with it. Wonder why. :|

Tell Sherlock that the membership committee has rejected his application.

Your friend needs to be careful for what he wishes for.

BTW: Here are a couple of videos that you might wanna show to your friend about what happens when you're not careful about what you wish for.

That type of person has done tremendous damage to our community because many if not most people think we all are faking it, using it as an excuse , or the syndrome is just not real. NO!! NO!! NO!!

I don't have many friends and those that I do have probably don't know what AS is. Tumblr has this weird autism subculture thing though... they don't really want AS for the positives though, they just want to be special snowflakes.

I can't pick my obsessions. It hasn't been all that useful. Do some people really think that we can just think, "I'm going to make my obsession learning to be a surgeon. *ding* I'm rich!"?

A couple of times I've been talking with a friend about social difficulties, and I talk about my somewhat recent AS diagnosis and how it has explained so much throughout my life, and my friend will say something like "You are lucky, I wish my difficulties could be explained away like that," as though their problems are now worse than mine because I have a label for mine and they don't. This is after they have gotten somewhat excited at the prospect that AS might be their problem too, so they do the AQ test then seem to be disappointed that they didn't score very high.

Being a snowflake sounds kind of painful. They melt as soon as you touch them or they just lose their symmetry if you touch them. That phrase "special snowflake" makes my back feel funny between my shoulders inside.

For Fnord: Omg ur so funny!

LupaLuna: everyone should consider it!

ASPartOfMe: Yep. Never use it as an excuse.
